  • kinda funny thing at work

Atleast 4 of the girls I work with are on a diet drug. They keep telling me about it like I should go get me some too. NO!!! They say it is half of the phen/phen that was banned. Supposedly the half that doesn't harm you. I'm not an addict (except food of course) but for me drugs just are never the answer to any of my problems. And of all the diet drugs they have come out with, over my life time anyway have turned out to cause serious health issues if taken for long periods of time. These gals are saying how great they are and how they are only eating half as much, and they aren't hungry, but then in the next breath saying how the Dr. will only let them take them for 2 or 3 months. So what you gonna do then? And here's the funny part they aren't losing anymore weight than I am not taking any drugs at all just changing the way I eat. And the best part is I will lose more and keep it off and I can guarantee they will not lose much and will not keep it off depending on a pill to do it for you. And while I'm on my soap box why does everyone think all you eat on Atkins is red meat???????????????? Drives me crazy. I keep explaining it to them what you really eat and telling them if someone told you that they didn't read the book. You gotta ready the book. I'm definitely eating more veggies now than I did before. I'm eating 3 cups per day. According to every nutritionist I've ever seen that would be 6 servings. They are just low carb veggies instead of french fries. LOL OK I'm stepping of the soap box now. haha

You are speaking to the choir. The people on the drugs if they never internalize the changes to their appetite or change what they are craving any change will only be temporary. You are certainly on the right path to getting it off and keeping it off. How anyone can think taking drugs is healthier option to losing weight than Atkins is beyond me -- especially in light of all the past harmful drugs past off as diet suppressants. Keep on preachin -- someone may listen!

If there was a 'magic' pill that helped people lose weight, be healthy, work out, and keep the weight off long term, everyone would take it and there would be no ADBB!!
There is no 'magic' pill, just hard work and determination to be fit and healthy. Great job not to take the easy way out (that doesn't work anyway).
What would we do without it?

You're going great, choeve, you've got the right attitude to solvin your problem. Quck fixes are just temporary patches that eventually fall off!

I ghet the meat thing too. I'm eating far more healthy vegetables than before (I mostly had potatoes, carrots and beans) and lots of chicken, lamb and fish as well as red meat. People sure get Atkins backsides up with care!

          I agree with you Choeve!
I was actually taking Phentermine (the LESS harmful half of Fen-Phen) before Atkins. I lost a little bit of weight but as soon as I got off I began to regain. About 5 of my friends have/are taking the pill and have done pretty well... all except one who swears the pill doesn't do anything at all for her. I was too paranoid the whole time I was on it about developing PPH or valve disease. Not worth it!
What we're going through now, the trials and triumphs, is teaching us how to listen to out bodies... teaching us to over come our bad habits so that we'll make life long changes. We can't make these changes by ignoring the bad habbits with an appetite supressant. We have to deal with them!!!

Ohmigosh, that is so crazy! Phentermine is SPEED!! And that is exactly what I was taking when I weighed 162 with only about 30 lbs. to lose...I lost 10 in one month, my body wouldn't tolerate the drug any longer...after a month of eating about 1,000 calories a day and tweaking on the prescribed amphetamine, I couldn't stop bingeing and my weight ended up climbing, eventually, to 230 lbs.

I don't know one single person who has lost weight on phen/fen or phentermine alone and kept the weight off.

              Just keep on keepin' on...!!

This is so true. I know...I used to try diet pills and try to lose weight. As soon as I couldn't afford them one month, I'd gain it all back. I felt edgy and miserable when on those pills and I was not a very good person. My new life-style gives me lots of energy, keeps me happy with myself and my weight loss by eating natural foods, drinking water and exercising. If only we could help others who are looking for the fast/easy way of losing weight realize that it has to be a permanent change in life and eating. Any pill or fad diet only allows for a temperary weight loss and feeling of misery.

I want to say it was PhenForm or something like that... I haven't been there in awhile!
They do have a lot of support and success stories for those on phentermine...

I lost 40 pounds on Phen/Fen years ago and was a bit worried about PPH & leaky heart valves. Fortunately, I didn't develop any side effects. I loved being on it at the time, but it began to lose its effectiveness after about 5-6 months. And naturally, I slowly regained the weight + 10 more! I had learned nothing.

Then, in desperation, I used Phentermine alone and lost 40 pounds AGAIN! As before, it stopped working after a few months and then it actually started KILLING my stomach. I also couldn't believe how much money my diet doctor was raking in and I finally decided to quit making him rich!

I'm so glad I found Atkins. I've again lost 40 pounds (that seems to be a magic number for me) and have learned a whole lot about myself and my body.
