  • quick question regarding low carb shakes

i have a problem i am currently living with my parents, my brother & his wife and son and i am unable to put atkin friendly foods in the fridge(i get complaints when i put a dozen eggs in there or cheese ect....) the low carb shakes dont seem to raise my blood sugar i keep a close eye on that being diabetic type 2. would it be ok to use them till i move out in 6-8 months(have a bunch of medical stuff that i have to have done so i am living with them til i get that out of the way.) how badly does it stall your weight loss? do you still lose weight as long as i stay under 20 net carbs?

    Please Help!
    Thanks in advance

Re: quick question regarding low carb shakes

wow tough crowd. Have you tried to do a doctor Phil on them and tell them you need them to help you get healthy as getting your excess weight off ASAP will improve your health imencely and as far as bariactric docs are concerned the good ofr ht eloss far out ways any temp badness the food getting there does?
Tell them you need them to be understanding of your current food needs and thank them in advance for their helping you get back to health.

If that doesn't work then maybe getting a small fridge just for you would be an option.

If all that fails if you have your shake as a meal and it ids in Atkins correct ratios meaning higher fat then protein it should not effect your weight loss negatively. It is the folk using a meal replacement shake as a snack that get into stallsville and the folk who use meal in a can are very vunerable to being like the repeat slimfast weight loss folk who go great on the meal in a can program but cause they didn't learn portion control and how foods effect them in a controlled manner like OWL that they get to goal then return to their bad eating habits and regain the weight with is what keeps slimfast in business all those repeat customers.

    Happy low carbing.

Re: quick question regarding low carb shakes

thanks for your help...also i have mentioned dr phils shows when i see an commercial(dont really watch him except sometimes the weight loss stories) about him going after a family that is not supporting one of their own and in that way causing them to stay over weight.

i had gone on slim fast about a year ago took off 20 pounds, switched from regular coke to diet coke and kept off the 20 pounds even though i quit slim fast because i was drinking the regular one and the sugar was killing my diabetes. i tried a few low carb shakes and they are filling to me anyway & i have found a cheese stick to be a better (& lower cost) snack for me i am not a fan of their low carb snacks the meal bars found one i loved too much and binged on a box and a half. so i can no longer have those in the house

normally if they have stuff in the fridge that i can eat i do it that way if they dont(they are really into carb laden things) then i try and stick to the shakes but only as a meal.

Re: quick question regarding low carb shakes

see you don't want to mention the SHOWs cause that puts them on the defensive that you are accusing them. Ask them for help with your low carb eating for your diabetes blood sugar control so you don't become like the blind amputtees out of control diabetics become. Kepp asking them to help you stick with your program then post your foods lists where they can see them all those yummy veggies too and you will win them over as they see your improved blood sugar numbers ( might post those on a chart where they can see them too) and your healthier smaller body and soon they will be nudging you when you even look at a toohigh for you carb food.

Becareful with the shakes as some have too much protein and as a diabetic you know protein will have a delayed spile when it gets digested and converted to sugars ifyou more then your body needs for growth and repair.
