  • Cuckoo for Crazy Danish

I'm addicted! There, I said it! That mock danish has me at its' mercy. The first time I made it, it was OK. Nothing I couldn't live without. But then things changed.

After I read several posts about adding in flax meal for fiber, I decided to make it again. OMG - Sinful!

Here's my question - How do you even out your fat/carb/protein percentages when you HAVE to have one?

PS - I know I could add a little protein like chicken to the meal - that's not what I mean. I guess what I'm really trying to ask is - Do you have a suggestion that would compliment the danish?

Typically the danish is eaten alone because it is a combo of fat/protein/carb---what Dr. Atkins said we should eat for meals and snacks.

If the danish is really that fabulous for you, you might want to use it carefully because you don't want it to re-activate any of your bad eating habits. Believe me, low carb substitutes are just as deadly as the regular foods. About 2 years ago, we had a number of people become addicted to one sweet-tooth appeasing low carb treat and, consequently, fall off Atkins due to that food addiction.

Thanks I'm trying to lay off them. They are only a treat kind of food now. I can see how they could get out of hand quickly.

However, I'm still confused about the percentages.

When I use Fitday, adding in
      1 TBSP (organic) flax-meal
      1 Large Egg
      2 Ounces Cream cheese

      I get fat/carb/protein at 81/4/15

That doesn't sound like the perfect combo to me. I must be doing something wrong.

that's really interesting, not2late, about people becoming addicted to the low-carb treats (marketing ploy perhaps?).

I found that I had no cravings until I started enjoying the low carb choccie bars and sugar-free/diabetic choccie bars, using the Atkins book to carefully measure the carbs - my goodness, the wind was just incredible!! The keto stix stopped changing colour, the weight loss stalled and I couldn't seem to go a day without having one or two (or more) of these 'allowed' snacks and ended up later falling off the wagon big style (though, I wouldn't say that I would entirely blame the choc bars for this).

Is there a treat that we can have that doesn't have such adverse reactions - is there another thread that deals with this? Has anyone else had similar reactions? What about the milkshakes??

I find it strange that a couple of years ago Tesco and Nimble were marketting a low carb bread (about 5 net grams a slice), but I cannot seem to find these now.

Yes, people can become addicted to certain low carb foods because those foods satisfy their sweet tooth or salt tooth. That's why it's very important to recognize those foods that "do it to you" and develop strategies for them.

I clearly remember the "clouds" incident on the board 2 years ago. We had a member who wasn't really following the rules of Induction and wasn't losing weight constantly posted and encouraged folks to use that recipe to satisfy sugar cravings. As you can imagine, lots of people ignored the advice of the mods and old-timers, got hooked on the recipe and fell off.
