  • What is wrong with me?

It's been so difficult to stay at my goal weight lately. My weight shifts about 4-5 lbs, and I don't mind that. I'm just afraid that I'm going to gain more then that and it'll start faltuating 10-15 lbs or even more.
I cannot stop binging lately and I don't even know why I do it. I just spent about 3 hours in the kitchen eating random things. First I started with a little natural PB, then I went on to come cream cheese on celery, then I decided to try to bake low carb cookies (came out like ****, by the way), then I got so frustrated I went and had cereal and ice cream! What is wrong with me? I can't tell if I'm an emotional eating now or what.
I always use to be, but I thought I got a hold of it. I feel SO guilty and so horrible because I can feel myself gaining weight as we speak. I'm probably going to eat more today, because I've binged before and then tried to settle my stomach the rest of the day and ended up gaining even more then I'd had expected.
What should I do about the rest of the day meal wise? I can't even stand myself right now.
All I want to do is eat.

My best meal to eat when I feel like I can't fill up is sausage fried with peppers and onions. I add alot of butter. The fattier it is the more it fills me up. I don't do this alot, but when I am feeling a little out of control, it reins me in. Can you go for a nice walk right now? Drink a big glass or two of water? You can get through this. Look how far you have come already.

I always eat something EXTREMELY fatty! The fattier the better! A nice thick, juicy Delmonico steak, seared and fried quickly in a cast iron pan with olive oil, salt & pepper - yum!

I've also read that L-Glutamine taken about a half hour before meals helps curb sugar cravings.

Anything but beat yourself up about it. That NEVER helps! Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and jump back in. You can do it!

make snow cones. the machines run any where from 15-50 dollars, and you can get that sugar free Da Vinci's syrup in all kinds of flavors. all the ice will fill you up, and you get the sweet taste out of your system without gaining any carbs.

I agree... eating something fatty should help. And then maybe something distracting like going to a movie or, even better... a gym!! Hang in there! You can do this! We're all rooting for you!

This must be so frustrating. Though my situation is far from identical, I know how this feels... for me, the best thing to do when I'm being driven insane by my eating is to simply shift the focus away from food. I usually drink a big glass of water and play Dance Dance Revolution, then clean the house or go out with friends. For meals, I totally agree with the rest... I'll usually do something like bacon and mushroom omelet, cheeseburger for lunch, heavy mayo egg salad for a snack, and big old steak with sauted peppers and onions for dinner. You're a very small person so you would eat smaller portions than I do, of course, but the fat is the key. Even though you're on maintenance, a day or two of ketosis might do you some good every now and then, especially if you're struggling.

I think exercise is the key though. It gives you a natural high, suppresses appetite, and distracts you from mindless munchies.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

            Vigilance, not perfection.

Re: What is wrong with me?

A lot of people have the same problem. I think sometimes when you start to feel normal and look normal -- then you want to eat what you've always considered "normally" according to the rest of the population. Your mind starts to ration that "Go ahead, you've lost an incredible amount of weight, so you can do it." But, as you know from the knowledge you've gained with doing Atkins....it does matter - just because you've lost weight doesn't mean it can't come back. Even when we reach goal...we must follow the maintenance plan of Atkins.

When I get these thoughts...I go into my journal and re-read the reasons that I wanted to lose the weight. I re-connect with the feelings that I had when I was miserable and angry at the way I'd let myself get out of control. Walking, drinking water, talking with Atkins friends here in ADBB can also help. At least you are realizing the symptoms and doing something about it before it skyrockets out of control.

Hi, a couple of weeks ago you mentioned you were very anxious and asking about medications. Have you possibly started taking something that is setting off your new eating habits? Just a thought.

good to see ypu are on top if this now at 4 pounds and not 40 pounds. As you know Dr Atkins said if it gets to 5 pounds you go back to induction eating to get control again. Are you just eating to eat or were you actually hungry and couldn't satisfy your physical hunger? Sounds like you were bored and just used food for that. What you got planned for the summer to avoid this issue?

There are many good reciepes in the database or you can just ask for one in the recipe request section. Are you still planning your eating or are you just eating whatever you find?

DO you have an Atkijns emergency kit with your reasons why you don't want to regain it. with our old pics to remind you of what your actions are creating? Are you exercising?

You can do this and now is the time to make yourself a plan

Re: What is wrong with me?

Just think of it this way... A little ice cream at a weak moment never killed anyone. And no matter who it is, Atkineer or not, they always felt just as guilty.

But, you know that you can always fix it. I believe the term is "Nana-Korobi, ya-oki" which translates roughly into "Fall down 7 times, stand up 8". Life has it's ups and downs. But, if you perservere when things are tough, you will get through them.

                      Don't give up.

I hope you got through this ok, Spook. You are not the old you anymore. You know that you're bingeing and have identified that, which is important but please don't write off the day or week on this basis, that will lead to a downward spiral (believe me!).

Make yourself a nice Greek salad (my new fave thing) - the veggies are so nice and crispy they may help your craving for the crunch, and you get some nice sweet peppers in there, a generous helping of feta - feels like it should be bad for you! Maybe even go back to keeping a food diary (www.fitday.com is an awesome site for this). Don't worry - you are not going to end up as you were. We are all here for you.
