  • Let's try this again...

    without the Monty Python deviations...

Excess skin around the mid section. I have lost a lot in my waist, but my abdomen is looking a little pudgy. I did a little more looking, and realized it was just loose skin. Loose skin is making me feel pudgy. I no likey. So, anyone have any good recommendations for getting rid of this loose skin, short of taking the "surgical" route?

Second question. How should one, such as myself (hypothetically speaking, of course) get rid of stretch marks. It wouldn't be so bad, if there were just a couple of small ones, spread around like bacon on a salad... But, if it was a little too much in certain areas... Kinda like strips of bacon on a salad... How would one go about taking care of these, short of taking the "surgical" route. For instance, if I were to take a loofah to those areas everyday, forcing a replenishment of new skin cells in those areas, would the marks fade away? Following it up with a Vitamin E enriched lotion, because it makes my skin oh so smooth...

I don't know if you get it over there (and I am not comparing you to a pregnant mother) but Ponds Cocoa butter is used by expectant mothers throughout the world to help with stretch marks.

The pregnant mom products are definitely a way to go. Vitamin e will help. Skin is very elastic and it does take time to firm up again, so along with treating your skin right, time may be the key ingredient.

But, if I'm not mistaken, those would be like pre-treatments, wouldn't they? I mean, to help elasticity when stretch marks would be expected. I want to rid myself of the ones I have already (hypothetically speaking. I don't have stretch marks. um.. my friend? Yeah, my friend has stretch marks that... she... yeah, she wants to get rid of. I've seen them. Not pretty.)

But, isn't it like scar tissue? I know scars fade away with time, so I was thinking that if I were to (she!) IF SHE were to scrub and force new skin cells to form, would that help? Help her? With her stretch marks, which are not mine?

        (Real smooth, genius)

        (Hey you, shut up!)

(Would both of you shut up?)

I need to address the both of you, so pay attention. Your stretch marks are in fact scar tissue. You will never get rid of them entirely (short of the surgical route) but your skin is a very elastic organ, and can be firmed up considerably. Especially young skin. They will eventually fade a bit and lose the red-ribbon look. Like dots said, time is going to be the key ingredient. And as for the loofah, hey everyone enjoys a little loofah now and again.

Well, the redness is gone. It's the white scar type tissue that I am worried about. I want to look good (she...) SHE wants to look good in a (bikini?) BIKINI! Bikini?

Right! She would wear a bikini, so yes, she wants to look good in a bikini.

Stretchy is no good in bikini.

I say, banish the stretch marks, and get new skin. Not like leatherface. Ew, no thank you.

And excess skin (EXCESS SKIN!) Yes, excess skin... How do I say bye bye to that stuff?

I want it to fade away, into the land of non-existance. (She) She wants it to fade away, into the land of non-existance... With the stretch marks. For the bikini. Because I would never wear a bikini, but she would, because she's a girl.

Do the scar products work on stretch maeks? Like mederma or something like that.

                Re: Let's try this again...

I don't know about those scar products. It seems like they would because we are dealing with a scar, after all. But isn't a stretch mark a tear in the lower or subdermal layer? Would the topical cream reach that far? I would ask a dermatologist. You would think that there would be some kind of cool laser thingy that could be done. I've learned to live with mine. It's been a while since I've been in a bikini anyway.
Exercise those muscles underneath that area and before too long, your skin will begin to hug it again! Time is your friend. You'll be back in that speedo, er, bikini in no time.

It's not for me! It's for a friend!

I'm not worried about my stretch marks... (You don't have any) I mean, I don't have stretch marks... I'm asking for her. (smooth, real smooth... Dork)

Okay. They are mine. And as soon as I figure out a way to get rid of them, they won't be mine anymore.

But, on the bicep? I mean, come on...

You could make up a lie about how they got there.....
-My biceps used to be REALLY big
-I was attacked by a smallish bear
                    -Old pro football injury

                    You get the idea.

Sorry that I'm not much help. I promise that a moderator will answer soon and put an end to my foolish ranting!
By the way, what skin type are you? If you have an olive skin tone, you might be able to minimize their appearance by tanning. Spray on, of course, you don't want to messing with the big C.

There is a lotion sold in Tanning salons made by TanZotic that contains Emu Oil that they are selling as reducing scars and stretch marks. Supposedly it really works. It retails for like 18.95 a bottle for the after tan moisturizer (which is just a lotion) or you can buy just plain Emu Oil under the name of Natures Best. They are both made by TanZotic. I have heard really good things about this lotion. Might be worth a try. If you don't mind that an Emu died to make it.
