  • Help with birthday ideas

It's my 21st birthday in 3 weeks time, and I have all my family coming over to help me to celebrate.

Basically, my mom's upset because I told her that I do not want them to buy or make a birthday cake for me, because I'm struggling to avoid temptation and I just don't think I have the willpower to resist a slice of cake. So she's not happy with that.

Instead, I'm after ideas that I can give her to make a substitute for a birthday cake! I've already convinced her to hold a bbq instead of her idea of taking us all out for a chinese meal, now I have to finalize the "cake"!

I think I can just about avoid the temptation of a glass of champagne, lol, but cake...I couldnt even let my family and friends have all my cake!

Fire away if you can! All your ideas will be much appreciated (No nuts though, allergies!)

As great as you look I am sure she understands its just as moms some things just have to be. Birthdat cake is one of them. What about a crustless cheesecake? Are you in OWL? What rung?

tell them that now that you are going to be an adult you want to start a new healthy birthday celebration for yourself and want all of them to participate.

go to an office supple store and get a big 3 ring binder and box of 3 ring plastic pages that you can insert an 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper into. Then ask everybody comeing to please write out a note to you about a favorite chaildhood memeory they shared with you and if they have a pic include it too. and at cake time you will be reading all of them for this yr and every yr from now on you want a new page of memories for your book. Since Mom wants somethig to do ask her to help ro just do it herself your cover for your book.

Since it will be filled with love and friendhip how can anybody refuse?

A Cheesecake would be great!! I've seen the recipes but haven't yet burdened the kitchen with my lack of cooking skills to make it lol.

I also think the memories idea is great! I'll try and get people to do that with or without a cake.

        Thanks guys!

          Re: Help with birthday ideas

I know this may seem like a bad idea, heck, I'm not sure if I even want to post it, because the temptation would still be there.

Why not just let her do the birthday cake thing, and you have the cheesecake. This way, everyone will have their choice between both. Your mother will still be happy that she was able to make, you'll have your cheesecake-y alternative, and the tradition of the birthday cake will be upheld!

(Make it a small cake, so you won't be burdened with the leftover cake. My family always gets huge cakes, so they can have more with their coffee in the morning)

Oh you know, you could do a really lovely fruit salad made from berries with real whipped cream on top. It's a simple dessert but very good.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

This cheesecake Steph! This is FABULOUS. I like Ska's idea too about having two cakes...but my bet is that everyone will want that cheesecake. It's a small cake, but 1/12th of a slice is so filling because it's heavy and creamy and rich.

I haven't had the LC cheesecake at CheesecakeFactory yet....but I'll bet George Stella's would give it one heck of a run for it's money....WITHOUT all the sugar alcohols!!!

You know, You could probably avoid the cake temptation If you had a really good
protien rich meal right before cake time. Why not have your Mom make the cheesecake for you using the recipe of your choice. That way you control the carbs.
Heck, it's your birthday. I'm sure she'd be more than willing to make you a recipe of your choice. Good luck with this hurdle.

Don't feel so bad...I have 4 kids and I have had to pass on cake 3 times already this year. They now understand it is just my diet and no one even questions me about it!

I agree. "Let them eat cake". Ha.

You'll have your cheesecake, so you won't feel deprived. Just be sure that your mother understands that you won't be having any of the birthday cake, I'm sure she'll be supportive!
