        Re: Stressing about hair loss!!!!

I had the same thing happen to me. It was after about 6 months of weight loss and my hair was coming out all over the place. I went to the doctors, got tests done and they were all fine. It was just part of my body adjusting after a drop in weight. Mine came back fine - it was probably a good six months or so until I noticed it filling out again properly.

I also have experienced it about 6 months ago following the birth of my son. Hair during pregnancy is so nice......but once the baby arrives your body does much the same thing as weight loss and drops all that hair.

Just make sure you are using a good quality shampoo.....and give your head a bit of a massage when washing your hair to encourange the new hair growth.

Hmmm...interesting thread here...Actually I went to get my haircut today and my hairstylist asked me if I had got my Thyroid checked lately. I was like "no, why?" And she said because my hair seemed to be thinning! She said not to worry but that I may want to ask my dr. next time I went in for a checkup. It was news to me 'cause I haven't noticed any thinning. I hope it doesn't start coming out in clumps like you guys have mentioned. But at least I know now that this may be "diet" related and it should fix itself. Thanks for the info guys.

                Re: Stressing about hair loss!!!!

Im SOOOO glad I found this post. I had a baby almost a yr ago and had HUGE amount of hair loss. Seriously coming out by the handfuls almost. But my dr said that the hair loss after having a baby that is hormone related should stop by 6 months postpartum. I noticed its falling out again very quickly. IN the shower I just run my fingers thought it and i have 30 or so hairs in my hand. Its scary!!!! I guess it seems worse than it is because i hvae really long hair andso it looks like more. I also had started to wonder if it was the diet. Thats for posting this. Glad to know it should eventually stop. Meanwhile, I need a hairnet! lol

                  Re: Stressing about hair loss!!!!

Hello... Yes I have an update! lol...
My hair loss has really slowed... I'd say my hair loss is just above normal. I can't tell you how relieved I am too!!!
I've moved onto OWL and I think that might have helped...? Not sure. I'm eating pretty much the same only I've added some fruit, LC yogart, and of course those evil nuts. I've also really been slacking on exercise so maybe my body was just in shock when I was losing so fast? I did lose most of my weight my first few months on Atkins.
I'm going to clean up my diet some (nix out the things I've mentioned above) and get back on track w/ exercise, so I'm curious to see if it'll start to fall out again. If it does at least I'll know not to panic like I did last time, because it did stop and it is growing back.
It does suck though because I have a LOT of little hairs that stick up all over the place, lol.
Started Atkins on December 8th, 2005

That sounds like me, except that this would be after I would get a huge handful while running the brush through before the shower, and another handful while drying my hair. I think mine may be slowing down a little also. And of course
like adreliluc I have those little short hairs sprouting out all over.

                        Re: Stressing about hair loss!!!!

My hair loss never slowed, and my hair doesn't seem to grow back. Or, when it grows back it is very thin.

I'll reccomend a good product which my doctor recommended several years ago...a vitamin called Ultra Hair. I used it on a regular basis, and noticed my hair growing noticably faster after several months. I need to re-order it...haven't been taking them because I'm bad with vitamins sometimes...and keep forgetting to order it. I've tried other "hair" vitamins, and nothing beats this one. You have to give it a few months to notice the difference.

You can get it from some health food stores for around $20...Whole Foods/Fresh Fields in my neighborhood stopped selling it I get it from Amazon.com now.

Just an FYI. I take thyroid meds, and I noticed my hair really thinning. The meds didn't help at all! But I started taking Evening Primrose Oil. Now if I run out, within 2 weeks - hair is falling out again...

                          Worth a try anyway.
