  • Losing muscle!

I just completed Induction on Sunday to the tune of negative 15 pounds(yay!). However, I've noticed that the places I'm slimming down the LEAST are my stomach, hips and bum. My more muscular parts, however--arms and legs--which have always been fairly developed are obviously shrinking. Now I haven't done much exercise during my Induction other than brisk walking. But usually even when I stay away from the weights for awhile, I don't notice a drastic change. And I've been eating plenty of high protein foods. Is this normal? Am I going to have to double my efforts to maintain a developed upper body? I'm also concerned that focusing more on resistance training might stall my weight loss.

    Re: Losing muscle!

first if you red your Atkins you know resistance training is mandatory part of Atkins.

Next relax you didn't lose muscle tissue you lost fluid stored in the tissues.. We have a lot of fluid stored in our muscles with our glycogen and other energy reserves this is the principle behind the bigger muscles from swallowing the creatinephosphate stuff body builders use. Swell the muscle it looks bigger and better.

Using special xray machines that actually measure muscle mass the study at UConn proved folk eating Atkins even if they don't exercise add muscle mass as they lose fat mass.
