  • I'm new...and stalled.

As the title suggests...i'm, new here and on Atkins.

I was 285, 2 months in i'm 260....but have stalled. I'm doing 1hrs exercise a day and only 4g Carbs a day. I'm 100% sure i'm not eating anything i shouldn't...Never more than 5 hours per meal. Why have i stalled? Still drinking 4 litres of water a day and doing 5000m on the Concept2 rowing machine a day too!!

    I'm 192cm tall, but a big build.

    Any ideas??

I'm not eating anything different that i have been for the last 2 months. I realise i'm gaining muscle, but i should still be loosing more weight than muscle,....right?

I am sure you are not stalled have you been taking Measurements. Were you exercising before or is this New to you. If it's new to you then it's normal to have a scale stoppage when you first start to exercise. The reason behindtis is when you begin to exercise your body basically breaks down you tear the muscles that's waht causes the aching you get after exercising. In order for your body to repair itself it rushes fluid (water) to the sight of inflammation and basically you retain fluid thus get a increase in scale weight or a stoppage of loss on the scale.

Another question why are you eating so few Carbs. Are you eating your Veggies this 4g seems awefully low to me and with the exercise you are doing you surely need more then that.

I would quit looking so much at the numbers on the scale and really start to use that tape measure.

Also Post a menu of what you are eating maybe that is also helpful.

I myuself have never been a consistant loser I lost 12 pounds on Induction then I lost NOTHING for 6 weeks then I lost 17 pounds in 3 weeks nothing for 4 another 12 so weight loss isn't gunna be a steady downward trend there will be ups and downs in there and before you know it like me you have lost 107 pounds amazing. If I had thrown in the towel when I had my first stall I definately wouldn't be where I am now. Stay strong you will get through this it's most likely Post Induction Stall Syndrome and this is normal it's a persiod of time where the Body adjusts to all the weight you have lost. It will resume. Have Patience I know it's hard take a deep breath HE HE

As Sarah said Dr Atkins defined stalls as 4 weeks of no inches nor pounds lost.

Atkins is low carb but not no carb.
are you using Dr Atkins New Diet revolution known as DANDR around here the 2002 version is what ADBB uses as the oficial Atkins program and in that Dr Atkins says you must eat the majority of your induction carbs from your veggies and you should have 3 cups of the acceptable ones from the lists either all 3 from the salad vegies list or 2 cups from it and one from the other list.
Some folk who do the extended indution and make poor food nutriant choices become deficient in vits and minerals and slow their weight loss down too Are you supplementing since you aren't eating your 3 cups of healthy veggies?

Low carb (0.2g per 100g) salad with tuna, egg anchovie and cheese for breakfast.

lean meat (typically pork chops or lamb) with brocolli for lunch

Dinner is a chicken (small!!) with salad (slightly higher carb 1.2 per 100g)

          I have Hellmans Mayo with all of these (50g + 0.6g carbs. 3 x per day = 1.8g carbs)

For snacks i'll have a couple of Mars bars and 4-5 McDonalds shakes....that's a joke!! For snacks i'll have cheese.

Is it the case that if you limit your carbs, that your body will burn fat and has no option? Or does it just not work for some people? It did initially work for me, but has now stopped!!

are you counting all the carbs in your cheese eggs.

In the absense of carbs the human body will burn triglycerides ( fats) for fuel and that is the premise Atkins was created on. But many things go into that your metabolism your caloric expenditure through your life activities and the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins, your body having the key molecules needed to transport break down process and react fatty acids something most folk don't normally have in abundance when they start Atkins. then there are those mitochodrias that need to be created in the cells to burn more fats.

Many low carbers who make poor nutritional choices when they begin induction do not increase those needed parts of the fatburning process and get run down. This is one reason when they move to OWL after doing extened induction they suddenly begin to lose again and continue to have better weight loss doing OWL. I hope you are supplementing your poor choices.

So what else is important to burn fats. What are the key things / foods?
