    Re: Non Specific Food Thread

Hi Seshena and welcome! Sorry your girl is sick! Hope that you don't get it too!
About the vinegar oil dressing......my folks are german too and when mom would make her dressing, it would be about half and half, and then salt and pepper to taste. I guess it's really a personal preference. So where in Germany did you live? My folks are from Karlsruhe.

Or it doesnt because its a meat? That kind of confuses me.
The 20 net carbs includes all the food you eat: eggs, cream, lemon juice, cheese, veggies, some meats, etc.

The majority of your daily carbs should be vegetable carbs. So if you are eating an averge of 15 net carbs daily, at least 8 of those carbs should be from the vegetables.

Too many people eat the non-existent carb vegetables, like lettuce, because they think lettuce is all you can eat or because they think Atkins is a no-carb diet.

Ah ok....that makes a little more sense. I wasn't really sure how to figure out what part of what. Thank you for the direction. I appreciate it!

          no problem.

The easiest way to eat those veggies is to plan your meal around the vegetable, not the meat. Yeah, it sounds 100% contrary, but it's the best way. Most of us make sure our freezers are stocked with every imaginable meat because we think that is our primary food source during Atkins.

For example, you decide that your veggies of the day will be 1 cup mushrooms, 1/2 cup red peppers, 1 cup asparagus, and 1/2 cup cucumbers. So for breakfast you use half of the mushrooms for a cheddar and mushroom omelette, for lunch you use 1/2 of the cucumber for a chicken salad, for a snack you have the rest of the cucumbers with dip, and for dinner you make a chicken, mushroom (1/2 cup), pepper (1/2 cup) and asparagus (1 cup) stirfry.

Just a side note on the salads. Isn't it amazing how much better everything tastes when you get rid of all that junk in the diet we used to consume?

I'm noticing that the vinegar I use on my salad is much more punjent and flavorful than it used to be and the olive oil actually has a unique flavor I never noticed before. A little goes a long way now where as before I used to drown the veggies in my salad with oil and vinegar.

Maybe I'm just weird..but I've noticed the subtleties(sp?) of the food that I could never taste before when I was shoveling it all in.

              Not weird at all!

I can taste the sweetness in veggies like broccoli and green beans. The first time I ate a strawberry during my OWL phase I was shocked! It was so, so, so sweet. Even now, people will tell me how sour the berries are, while they're spooning sugar or sweetener on them. I taste them and they are sweet. I can't eat the Heinz 1 carb ketchup because I find it too sickeningly sweet.

Exposing your tastebuds to alot of sugar all the time dulls them to the no sugar added, natural sweetness of fruits and vegetables. Once your tastebuds are set free, you're sense of taste will be improved 100000000000%
