  • Recommend me a low carb ketchup

I love ketchup, but I can't even eat heinz anymore (I've tried even though its high carb)! I've tried several varieties of low carb ketchups in the past, and they were all bad, but I dont remember which ones I've tried.

If you know of a good low carb ketchup, or one that you like, please recommend it!

    Thanks

Re: Recommend me a low carb ketchup

Speaking of Heinz, I am using Heinz's One Carb Ketchup.

It tastes very good. It's a smallish bottle but it's affordable (higher cost per ounce than regular ketchup but we lowcarbers use less, so I think it works out just fine). 1 carb per tbsp, so you shouldn't go hogwild with it, but a little is nice... I often mix it with mayo and hotsauce and make a jacked-up ketchup to put on my burgers.

I'm in a fairly rural area and all the groceries but one in my town stock it.

I vote for Heinz! I like it because it tastes good, and it's easy to find. Just make sure you get the low carb one and not the low salt one. I read on one post that the bottles look almost alike, and it's nasty!

Re: Recommend me a low carb ketchup

I hated paying the price for low carb ketchup; did a search and found LOTS of EASY recipes for ketchup (most of them simple ingredients)
I found a couple on Linda's Low Carb Recipes that were great - my favorite called "Better heinz ketchup"; don't know if its allowed to cut and paste them here, but easy to find if you search!
Easy to make with tomato paste, vinegar, water, splenda and spices.
            Try it!

I second Need2lose's recommendation for Linda's Better Heinz Ketchup. It took no time to make, and lasts me a long time. Much cheaper and tastes terrific!

              Good luck

Re: Recommend me a low carb ketchup

Here is my rant about ketchup.

In Australia we call it "Tomato sauce". You have a pie with tomato sauce.

Nobody, I mean nobody uses the term ketchup,

                except....

McDonalds and Hungry Jacks (Burger King).

Now being a low carber, very occasionally I will order a burger with tomato sauce and mustard.

But the cashier (being some 14yr usually) gets all confused with the word tomato sauce. Because his/her cash register has a button that says ketchup!

So I have to say, 'Yeah, no ketchup!"

                GRRRRR!!!

I'm going to have to hunt for that Heinz one! I can NOT live without my ketchup, but all the supermarkets by me have stopped stocking it!
I think I may need to drive a little further (or fly at this rate!) to buy it in bulk, or *shock horror* learn to make my own.

I buy the Heinz one carb ketchup also. My family actually prefers it to regular ketchup. The only place that I can still find it is Walmart. They better keep it in stock or someone might get hurt.

Re: Recommend me a low carb ketchup

lol, Momtofour, I'm considering buying a whole case of it to keep in the closet in the event that it does get discontinued. Of course, one bottle has lasted me and my husband (it's only us in our family) for 4 months now and it's only half-gone! So that probably wouldn't be a smart idea... and there's always the option of making some from scratch, like others have mentioned... if I bought a special bottle in which to keep my current stock of ketchup (kinda like my salad dressing cannister), then maybe I could cope with it. Hmmm... now there's an idea.

Re: Recommend me a low carb ketchup

I buy Heinz One Carb. I lurve it. But Kroger and SuperTarget no longer carry it. I bought out a Kroger a few months back when the discontinued it. But I am on the last bottle.
I did mess around with some BBQ sauce recipes last month and made one that I like almost better than ketchup. It's kinda a cross between ketchup and BBQ.

I'll post it here and in the recipe chat.

Melinda's BBQ Sauce or Ketchup replacement

1 15 oz can tomato sauce
                              4 tbsp Worcesteshire Sauce
                              1/2 tsp liquid smoke
3 tsp Frank's Red Hot hot sauce
                              1 tsp chili powder
                              1 tsp ground mustard seed
                              1/2 tsp paprika
                              6 pkts Splenda
                              1/2 tsp cumin
                              2 tsp onion powder
                              2 tsp fresh chopped garlic
2 tsp beef base or bouillion
                              2 tbsp + 2 tsp white vinegar

Mx it all together and bring to a simmer.
Turn off and let cool. Pack it in the fridge for atleast 6 hours.
Use liberally, well, atleast that's what I do!! It keeps for a few weeks in a closed container in the fridge. Well, it only keeps in my house about 2 weeks and then I have to make more.

Good luck in your ketchup search
