I didn't really realize this until perusing the grocery store isles this weekend to replace my favorite caesar dressing. I usually stick to caesar or ranch because I eat mostly lean meats and the dressings, mayo, etc. help me supplement the fat intake. Well, it seems as though every single 'flavor' contains sugar, corn syrup or some other sugary type ingredient. I chose the one with 'sugar' listed only as part of the worstecher sauce additive but I'm still concerned that maybe this is skewing my diet efforts. Unfortunately, I'm weak and can't sit there and eat multiple cups of chopped vegetables without some sort of flavor additive. The dressing is what I look forward to in my daily veggies the most. Do I need to be worried about this?

Re: All salad dressings contain sugar...
Ken's brand has pretty good ones. http://www.kensfoods.com/kf/welcome.servlet
You can also make your own, a little splash of oil and vinegar or lemon juice.

Re: All salad dressings contain sugar...
I use carb-well or carb-select (? i think thats what it's called).... Both say 0 carbs, but I count each tbsp as 1 carb anyway. I think they have splenda. I usually just have lemon w/ a dash of salt and pepper though.
When I don't have a choice (or if I'm just feeling frisky) I'll use regular ranch but as little as possible and I usually count that as 2 carbs per tbsp. I figure an occasional "give or take" won't kill me.

Re: All salad dressings contain sugar...
I like Marie's salad dressings, we find them in the refrigerated section next to the salad mixes in the grocery stores here.
You could make your own. Personally, I LOVE mayonnaise with some dill and salt and pepper as a salad dressing. Add some crumbled blue cheese and voila! you've got blue cheese dressing. Add parmesan and you've got caesar. On the berry rung, I mix in a tiny little bit of raspberry balsamic vinegar and some olive oil for a different taste.~Joy

Re: All salad dressings contain sugar...
That's a great site! One thing I've hated giving up has been marinades. I've made a few but I like to barbeque a lot and variety is essential. Thanks for the link.

Re: All salad dressings contain sugar...
I have found that making my own dressing was the easiest way to avoid the hidden carbs in most commercial dressings. I just mix about 2 parts olive oil and 1 part red wine or white wine vinigar. Add some spices and you pretty much have a 0-1carb salad dressing.

Re: All salad dressings contain sugar...
I was lucky enough not to be affected by the 1g found in the Hidden Valley Ranch or locally made salad dressings. The good doc recommended that 2g per 2 TBS was the limit of salad dressing. If you are stalling certainly look at any hidden carbs, but if the sugar is a negible amount the dressing should be fine.Kent - 35-M-6'4"
