  • Loosing fat or muscle?

    How do you know if you are loosing fat or muscle?
    If you eat Atkins correctly will you always loose fat and
    not muscle? If you exercise too much and do not eat
    enough calories, will you loose muscle and not fat?
    I am confused.....Answers please!

    The way I understand it, once you're in ketosis, you're always burning fat unless you're menopausal... in which case hot flashes have been known to burn down entire villages... but I digress...

      You're burning FAT and not muscle...

      Read the book

      I weight train often and I haven't lost a step at all... still pretty built. Should look pretty good once the fat melts off

        this is a very complicated question and the answer is it depends on what you are doing,

        IF you are eating your Atkins correctly and feeding your hunger and eating according to the 6 hr rule when not hungry then you should have an adequet protein intake at the atkins 30% protein level to meet your protein needs for body repair and growth and actually be adding lean body mass to your body.

        Now if you aren't eating your Atkins correctly then it is very possible to not get enough protein to meet your body's needs and you will canniblize your protein reserves for body repair.

        However your fuel needs will be met by burning your fats both dietary and body stores along with your excess proteins in your diet and even if you didn't have excess your body would make repairs before it burned the protein as fuel

          I've been following Atkins for 4 years and 4 months and haven't lost a bit of muscle, but baby, I've lost the FAT! My muscles are very strong -- I've already run 680 miles this year alone .. 1 half-marathon, 1 full marathon, and 34 training miles every week!

            I have been eating this way for 1 and a half years I ahve actually put on 15 lbs of Muscle intentionally and lost Hords of fat. SO if you are eating correctly you will be losing fat.

                I actually lost some muscle definition in my legs, but this was mainly because I had 65lbs less body fat to lug around everyday. To compensate, I had to increase my leg workouts.
