  • So if you blow it ....how do you keep it small?

I bet a lot of people do this ...but I seem to have the problem that if I screw up ... I take on a "what the ****" attitude and blow it big. I went to a family wedding over the weekend and, well, I'd been on track for a while....but between the travelling and the wedding ... screwed up. Quite surprisingly, i found myself saying "Awe, what the ****, you've already blown it for today." It was quite conscious! I was able to knock it off, remdingin myself of how hard I had to fight to get here - and that the suit I was in was an accomplishment - but not with any serious room to spare!:!

Nevertheless - does anyone else do this? You cheat, eat, or otherwise screw up ...and then it is open season for the day? if you do - how do you "pull up" out of the dive?

Thinker, it happened to me on Friday. And the honest to goodness truth is that I came here and fessed up (in my journal and one other thread, and now this one). Knowing that I had to face everyone here is what made me keep my next meal...and subsequent ones through the weekend...on track. Ever since Friday Noon, every meal has been a temptation and the carbohydrate addict keeps trying to get me to eat more bad things. It's been a conscious struggle. I keep remember those "tough love" posts that I've read in the past...about how you don't wait until tomorrow or next week and give yourself a pass.... you get right back on THAT MINUTE.

Totally agree with the "that minute". Also, once you know your CCCL if you've followed the rungs correctly, you can kind of do damage control when you see it happening, and make THAT conscious decision. You can recover from one dessert. It is A LOT of work to recover from a day of desserts.

Re: So if you blow it ....how do you keep it small?

I had a bad Saturday and it was the same thing. At first i thought screw it, but then I knew how I'd feel and this morning i was back to behaving. I was over my uncle's this evening and they were roasting marshmallows and as much as I wanted one, I held back. It's hard when you boo-boo, but i just keep reminding myself how much better I feel and look.

I love the confessional idea! I really do!

For me, I'm not like a crack addict. It's not that I grab some carb and now HAVE TO HAVE IT. Instead, I become a super-hero who's mutant power is to rationalize. I'll invent stories on why it is OK to eat TODAY. "After all you blew it. Get the craving out of the way. It'll wake up your body. It'll make ketosis later more effective." I should really run a poll as to the top 10 lies you tell yourself!!

But those all sound silly if I post them ...here!!

          Thanks!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with an INNER DIALOGUE!!!

The problem with almost all of them ....just like my list ... is that sometimes they are true! We've all had cheat days that really do kick of ketosis again. Why? Who knows? The problem is I got heavy one day after another after another ...and now i"m in constant vigilence mode (most of the time....he said sheepishly).

I think what scares me the most is that I'm a second time arounder, I don't want to be a third time arounder. I see a lot of people on here who have cheats and start and then cheat again a few days later, and then again and again and again and finally just quit totally....it's that whole "kiss of death" thing. I don't want to do that...I don't want to fall victim to that mind set.

I'm a 2nd timer too!! The first time I lost over 100lbs. I put 10 back rigt away ...but it's been 4 yrs until anoter 5 - 10lbs popped again. That's what I'm fighting now. I remember being fat (it was 4 yrs ago now) and i hated it.

                      Thanks!!!

Re: So if you blow it ....how do you keep it small?

Confession seems to be the quickest way for me to get rid of the temptation. I find someone who is okay with my new eating patterns, and I tell them what I've done wrong. Once I've done my Act of Contrition (wrong confessional... lousy catholic school) I generally am able to stay away for quite a while.

I find I'm different than lots of people, but I still LOVE talking about foods that I miss eating. Whenever I get a craving (It was ice cream today, which was weird) I just talk talk talk until it goes away. It's satisfying for me to remember the days when I could eat a large pizza and chicken wings and still want more.... Actually, I don't miss them at all.

Without good, there would be no evil. And without my gorging days, I couldn't appreciate how happy I am now.

Re: So if you blow it ....how do you keep it small?

My way to rationalise myself out of the mindset of 'now I've blown it I might as well continue to pig out' is always to think of how I will feel when I look at my fitday entries for the day!
Seems silly that a record that only I can see (I have fitdayPC) will make me toe the line, but it seems to work for me!
Others keep a journal and write it all down including their feelings about what they have done which helps them sort their feelings out and resist the temptation the next time around.
another key tool is to have a plan!
Failing to plan is planning to fail
so try always to have a 'fall-back plan' to keep you on track.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

make yourself an atkins emergency kit and use it before when you even think about blowing it. If some how you do manage to still jump off the low carb wagon practice carb harm reduction. focus on how fast you can neutralize that harmful eatting by making the next bite Atkins friendly. Every time you get back will be one less time you have to restart.
