Err.. it's got some truth to it. Factory farming does cause damage to the enviroment. If you look at the big picture though there are many, many, many other factors out there that contribute more to damaging the enviroment than factory farming.
Indeed. The modern way of human existence in all of its glory is contributing to global warming, not just the meat packing plants. I think the title of the article and the slant of it were carefully crafted to draw readers, as many articles are. But as a result, I think the news story was perfectly narrow.
The hook is that meat-eating diets could contribute to the global warning phenomenon. Then, it later goes on to discuss organic farming. Well, hello? What about those who are avid meat eaters that already eat organic meat? They havea "meat-eating" diet. I know there's a bit in there about moderation but oh well.
It was an interesting read this morning, however, and thanks for posting it.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.
Actually there are reports of huge restaurant chains such as Wendy's, etc buying up huge lands in the Amazon rainforest which the greenery is being slaughtered to make room for ranches for cattle, etc. That's one of the reasons why the environmentalists are upset about the depletion of the rainforests.
Well I it DOES contribute; however so does eating all the prepackaged, sugar, white flour crap a person can buy at the store!
But by doing atkins you are cutting down on global warming. You can help in other ways such as, dont drive just to drive, buy earth based cleaning products and dont wast; use and reuse things in the house.
I am very conscious of GW and I buy things that are friendly to the earth and I recycle. Eating meat is just one small aspect and if a person lives a earth friendly life; there is not much to worry about. Humans have been eating meat for a long time!
If you want to do a earth friendly things get involved in stricter regulations for meat processors..ie. cleanup, environmental, even something simple like keeping a house full of plants help the ozone,ex.
Cow farts add methane to the atmosphere, so by eating more beef, I'm actually lessening the methane in the atmosphere, thus saving the world.

This may sound a bit crazy; but when I was in college my physics professor told me that there was a study at Auburn university about that very subject!
They had ten cows in a closed room'barn measuring the gas. over a 2 month period..

ROTFL - Methane is a form of fuel isn't it? Too bad you can't put cow farts in your car. We could conserve energy by keeping a cow in our house. We can use cow farts to keep us warm in the winter. lol I'm joking but I've never smelled a cow fart, so maybe it's no laughing matter. hee hee

They are pretty ripe! But their burps as they bring up the cud to rechew it are even worse! Definitely a stand up wind scenario.
