  • Anyone Else Experience This Too?

    HI all,

I have been on Atkins since February and so far I have only lost about 15-16lbs.I am now entering my 16th week and I must say am kinda disappointed in the results.
I just wanted to know if theres anyone else who is on this board that is loosing at such a slow rate as myself and anyone who has reached goal going this slow.

    I started at 217.5 and am not 202.5 , thats less than a 1lb a week.
    Any one?????

*ps dont want to hear about inches, I only want to know if anyone has lost at this rate, already had the pep talks about muscle weight and inches and so on.

I can see how you can be frustrated. Now, you aren't going to like what I have to say, but I think you should put your scale in the closet and forget it exists for a whole month. I am serious. Then take a long hard look at what you are eating. Write everything down, even sugar substitutes. How many carbs do you eat each day and how many calories are you eating? Are you drinking lots and lots of water?

You need to become a science experiment and get to the bottom of what is holding you up. Maybe you need to exercise some more. Sadly, though, some of us just don't lose very fast, but the good news is that you ARE losing. Try not to become frustrated. You are almost 16 lbs lighter than you were a few months ago; you could be that old weight, plus some, and feeling lousy right now. Instead you feel great eating the way you are supposed to.

Don't worry about your progress! Last year, I would lose only 4 lbs in one month, then 11 lbs the next! Your time is coming, I promise.

Ive been on atkins since 1/9/06. As of today, I just hit 34 pounds gone. Slow? heck yeah. Do I care? no. I didnt get fat overnight and neither did anyone else on this board so to expect it to fall off overnight is a huge disservice to yourself.

I started the last week in Feb - averaging under 8pounds per month
That sure beats gaining 9 per month before Atkins!

I too came to a complete stall. For almost 6 weeeks, nothing! I didn't want to hear the "measure routine" either. I had heard it before. Here's the thing though and there was no getting around it for me - When my scale finally started to move, my measurements stalled!

Now I'm longing for the measurments to go down. That's how I truly know I'm morphing.

I encourge everyone to measure. That's the number that counts in a dress size - not what the scale says. Because no matter what the number is on the scale, if you're waist is not XYZ, you won't fit into that new size. Right?

Re: Anyone Else Experience This Too?

I lose slowly because I've learned I have alot of lousy eating habits that I need to correct in order to maintain my goal weight/size. I know if I don't fix these problems along the way, I'll be right back to wearing 3x dresses and weighing almost 250 pounds in no time flat.

Would it be nice if I speed up my weight loss and reach my goal in 3 months? Maybe, but I don't want to be "doing Atkins again" in 6 months because I've regained everything and more.

                        Diva,

I don't have good advice to offer you, but perhaps it'll encourage you to hear that I've been losing about 2 lbs. a month too - but all those little pounds have added up to over 40! So.... it may be slow, but it's the right direction. Hang in there!
I want to be thin. I want to be a runner. Why can't I get it into my head that both things require work??

Re: Anyone Else Experience This Too?

                          Diva,
I've been experiencing a rather slow loss too. It sucks even more when you're SO is whizzing by you. I started 6 weeks ago and lost 7lbs during the first two weeks. Since then I've dropped 4 more. Meanwhile I see people on this board and read success stories everywhere of people dropping 70lbs (my goal) in 6 months. I'd like to be a size 12 by my 25th birthday in October but at this rate I'll be lucky to be there by next summer. Meanwhile my boyfriend will have dropped his 50lbs before July is over.
It is very discouraging and I am trying to examine what I eat but I really am being a good girl! At least we're not alone.

No, that's not odd at all, that's a very healthy rate of weight loss!

Are you exercising? Increasing your cardio intensity will likely make the
                            numbers move a little faster.

I started out losing 1/2 lb. a week, like clockwork, for several months. Now I'm about 18 lbs. from goal (although I'm thinking 126 may be too low for me since I am pretty muscular). The scale hardly ever budges, but now that I'm down to the last little bit of fat, I don't need the tape measure to SEE the changes in my body.

I know I know I KNOW you don't want to hear it, but the scale is really a random number generator. If you work out, your muscles retain some water and the numbers go up. If you drink a lot of water, the numbers go up. If you are dehydrated, the numbers go down, but are you really less fat or in good health?

And I can tell you from my own experience, I HATED that I lost weight so so SO slow (I started about 18 months ago), BUT, because it has been so slow, the changes I have made in my eating and exercise habits are now permanent parts of my life. Not only that, but losing slowly gives you time to get used to your new body gradually, and your body knows you aren't in trouble and suffering from an emergency food shortage.

You ARE losing weight, you are obviously doing something right, so stick with it and keep doing what you're doing. Hang in there! You are doing a powerful thing for yourself and doing a great job of it! You'll get there!

I just also wanted to mention that the whole time I have limited my carb intake to 20g.I have been in induction this whole time.

Thanks everyone. I am so glad I am not alone. The encouragement is the reason I love this place.
I will hang in there, and will start to up my exercise.I am just sick right now with strep, so this week wont be the week to start that.
