  • Induction Phase 1 - Water Weight?

    Hi There

I am in day 6 of my 14 day induction. Prior to starting Atkins 6 days ago, I was on weight watchers for 10 days and lost 8 pounds. I switched to Atkins since I was always hungry. I immeditely switched from Weight Watchers to Atkins and have been on the Induction Phase for 6 days and lost 2 pounds. I was hoping to loose more than just 2 pounds. I'm wondering if the Induction Phase is primarily the loss of water weight? And could it have been that I have already lost that 'water weight' when I was on Weight Watchers? I have used the Ketone Strips as a guide and I am showing a trace to moderate amounts of ketones which varies daily. I feel wonderful, have lots of energy and exercise approximatey 20 minutes-40 minutes a day. My menu consists of:

Breakfast: 1 Hard Boiled Egg or 2 Scrambled Eggs fried in Butter w/1 Sausage Patty or 2 slices of bacon

Lunch: Tuna salad (tuna in water - 1 can) w/3 tsp Mayo OR Egg Salad (2 Hard Boiled Eggs w/3 tsp mayo).

Dinner: Some meat (lean cut of beef, chicken or turkey) w/romaine lettuce (salad w/cheese and blue cheese dressing) or plain.

    Snack: String Cheese

I have 20 pounds left to reach my goal. Am I doing something wrong and/or is the process slow as it might be mainly water weight? Thank you!!!! Lora

Re: Induction Phase 1 - Water vs Fat?

Well, Lora. I've been told that women loose weight slower than men. Also, the closer you are to your goal the slower you loose. Just stick with the program, I'm sure you meet your goal.

The initial weight loss on any diet is water. You possibly have lost that water weight while you were on Weight Watchers.

Make sure you are eating your vegetables and that you are spreading those vegetables out rather than eating them all in one meal.

Your expected loss in induction should be 10% of how much you need to lose. Sounds like you're right on track!

ZacharyDoo! I'm only seeing lettuce as a veggie on your menu. Please please please remember to eat 3 cups of veggies, and certainly not just lettuce! Have some tomato with that tuna salad, some broccoli with dinner, some mushrooms with your eggs. Just get in your veggies! They are loaded with nutrients, so you don't want to miss out!

Are you varying your exercise? Some cardio, some weight resistance?

And are you drinking all of your water? Keep any sodas or drink mixes (Crystal Light, etc.) to a bare minimum or eliminate them all together! Water water water!

With 20 pounds to lose, your loss may be slower at this point. Be patient. YOu are doing great!
