  • Is Atkins the Fountain of Youth?

It's funny. I've always had a 'young face.' I've gotten carded most of my life.

After child birth, breast feeding pulled the weight off, but EXTREME stress put it back on. With this excess weight, I looked old and tired. When my son and I went out to run errands, a few people thought I was his GRANDMOTHER. I was in my late 20's!

Since losing the weight, I don't get that reaction anymore. Three weeks ago, we went to the park and I was mistaken for a 21-25 year old by three strangers whom were 19, 21, and 25 years old! I also get hit on by guys in their early 20's. I turned 34 this year. I also get hit on by dirty old men who thing I'm a 'young' (early 20's) play thing. Not!

I have had many people who have only seen me large, walk past me several times before coming over to asked "don't I know you."

Side note: Breast feeding is AWESOME in SO many ways! Excluding special circumstances, does it make sense to feed your newborn something that does not come from you? Yes, the little one will consider you a 'Glorified Vending Machine,' but you'll love it and so will he/she!

Yeah, the heavier we are, the older we look I think.
Plus, we're drinking loads of water, so our skin is positively glowing!

I completely agree. Everyone who has posted before/after photos looks much younger after they've lost the weight. They usually have bigger smiles, are taking better care of themselves with clothes,makeup,hair-dos and smiling because they are feeling much more confident. I believe that these things along with the smaller bodies makes us all look younger, energetic and healthier.

While I believe there is a physiological explanation, I believe that the main reason is energy - our own embullient glorious joyous energy. Being healthy and happy is the best skin cream!

Well... I have to say that after weight loss the wrinkles and lines on my face became more accentuated. But people still say I look great (and younger). Must be to do with the inner confidence and feeling so darned healthy and full of energy; the ol bounce in the step and such...

            Hoorah for Atkins!

Re: Is Atkins the Fountain of Youth?

With the weight loss, my face and cheeks remains round as ever - albeit less full than before, of course. With Atkins, I may have managed to avoid that "drawn" facial look I see in so many low-fat dieters.

Re: Is Atkins the Fountain of Youth?

Before coming back to Atkins I really was noticing that my Mom was getting a lot more done than I was. Seemed that she had a lot more get-up-and-go, while I was feeling too old, tired and achy to do much of anything. Felt like an 80-year old; waking up, having to roll up to a sitting position, gingerly standing up with plantar facciitis & my back killing me & bones popping as I went downstairs to stuff my face every morning. That was just how every day started.

Less than 4 months have gone by. I feel like I'm in my 30's again. Feet don't hurt; bones don't pop. I get a few chores done in the morning before leaving for work with a healthy set of foods to eat during the day. I'm coming up with more energy than Mom now, seeing some muscles and liking what I see in the mirror more each day. I even found my ribcage again.

Is Atkins the fountain of youth? Before Atkins, age 45, Feb. 2006, weigh was 222, up over 50 lbs. in 6 months. Forecast for no Atkins at that rate: by 12/06 would be 46, at 322. By 10/07 - 422, and probably becoming immobile. By 8/08 I'd most likely have type II Diabetes, heart trouble, high BP & Cholesterol, be very depressed and on lots of meds. June, 2009 would put me at least at 522 pounds, at the age of 48, if I were still alive. Obviously I could not expect to live anywhere near as long that way as I do now.

I fully expect to live to at least 100!

I think it's all the good fat that we eat. I like to believe the fat we eat goes directly into any wrinkles and fills 'em up!

We all have to believe in something!
