  • Think I Figured Out My Stall

Okay, no pounds dropped since my mom came to live with us....BUT...I think I may have figured it out...my carbs have been alright...I've had two days where I went over 20.....but not by a lot...for the most part my carbs are around 15 or 18...although yesterday they only added up to 5 *shrug* go figure.

Anyway....my calories have increased TREMENDOUSLY. I was having between 800 and 1500 calories a day...but I think the pot roast that I had and the rotisserie style chicken with skin really popped up those numbers. Fitday is showing my calories for the past few days to be between 1800 and 2400 a day.

Is that or should I say....could that be the reason for my "stall"? I havent gained anything but I havent lost any more either.

Well, I think that's what it is so I'm going to work on getting my calories and carbs at the right level again....but I'd like to hear from some of you experts or "old timers" at this way of life......please.

Stalls and plateaus are normal for diets. I look at them as your body taking a break to adjust to all the changes you made.

Also the cause(s) can be alot of things--not enough exercise, too many/few calories, stress, TOM, etc.

In terms of your calories, a very, very rough estimate based on your current weight is that you should be around the 2300 cal daily range. Again, this is a very rough estimate and the number of calories your body needs is really based on your activity level and your metabolic level (which is why I really don't pay alot of attention to those daily calorie equations).

    Review your menues.
If you haven't been a stickler for measuring your food, start doing it. Sometimes we think our portion "estimates" are accurate when they can be too much or too little.
    Review your exercise routine.
    Review your water intake.
Take your measurements! Too many folks rely solely on the scale as a measure of fat loss. Losing inches also indicates fat loss.

I say take the number of lbs you have lost and then average them out by the number of weeks you have been doing this....you see the first couple of weeks are water then your body adjusts then you loose fat...so at this point what you have lost is fat ...and your total weight loss for this time is for real... I hope I make sense?

Ur other thread talks about ur mum and the situation at home. The stress could be stalling you. What exercise do you do? Maybe increasing ur exercise will give u a boost? Introducing more cardio?

Okay well I can say that I am falling under the too many calories, no exercise, too much stress category right now.
I know one is supposed to exercise...but I wont lie...I havent been. (Dont hit me....) I dont exercise in the conventional way....I sort of think of me getting in my exercise during my work days....but I could be wrong.
While I have a sit down desk job...I'm hardly ever JUST sitting...I'm always up and running around the building and once a day I have to go deliver and pick up the mail....so I drive over to the Command Central building and SOMETIMES walk up to the fourth floor (sort of like 8 flights of stairs) but I definately always walk down them (unless I have a heavy box and I need to take the elevator down)....
Then when I get home I do lots of "dancing" around with my 4 yr old and my rottie....
That probably isnt enough is it???

As for the other stuff you said...I definately need to measure a little better...I use a measuring cup and measuring spoons for 50-75 percent of my food. My water intake has gone down since my mom came in....but measuring?? Ughhhhhh I tried that and it depressed me severely. Is that 100% necessary?? I suppose it is or you wouldnt have mentioned it eh?

Re: Think I Figured Out My Stall

I am the Queen of Stalls! Honest!

If you think you are eating too many calories, you might want to re-address what you are eating and how much and whether you are actually feeding your hunger, or emotionally eating and clearing your plate or eating too much because of it. I have had this issue, partially because of the old adage of needing to eat everything on your plate because there are starving kids in Africa. What has helped me is that even if I cook extra, I put a small serving on a small plate of everything I want to eat and eat slowly, with alot of water, and make sure I get my veggies eaten and my protein, then wait a bit. If I'm still hungry in 20 minutes, I'll have more, but that rarely happens. Snacks are helpful too.

FYI, 800 calories is too low. 1200 is the lowest you should have honestly.

As for the exercise, it really does help to have a regular exercise plan beyond work or daily routines. There is a difference between "being active" and "exercising". It is a set scheduled time where your mind and body is focusing on the exercise at hand. It's also very good for relieving stress. Cardio is important to fat burning and increasing your metabolism. Some sort of stretching/weight lifting exercise is also important for maintaining and building muscle tone which also helps with fat burning and your metabolism.

I know it can be hard to find the time, but make the commitment to do it and the more you do it, the easier you will find it to do.

I didn't exercise my first year on Atkins because I thought my health condition would make exercise painful, but I discovered how wrong I was, and how much better I felt once I started exercising regularly. I probably would have lost alot more weight if I had.

Measuring your inches....I recommend it. I once when through a period of several months without losing any pounds but lost a couple of dress sizes.

I would purchase a pedometer, so you can see how much you really are walking every day. It is amazing how quickly the miles add up!

I would have what I thought were stalls or plateaus and then to my surprise....I lost a pant size. You're changing from the inside out right now.

A great walk a couple of days a week might help a tremendous amount with your stress level. Do it for you. The nice side effect is weight loss!
                  Take care

Re: Think I Figured Out My Stall

Thanks guys for all the great advice...I definately kicked up my water intake again....and am trying to make sure that I dont eat fatty meats like pot roast...things that are a little lower in calories.....

I'm going to have to figure out what I need to do exercise wise though...maybe use the stair master that I bought a couple of months ago? LOL Guess I'll use it in my bedroom while I watch a tv show or something once my daughter has gone to sleep for the night......

Anyway....I'm trying to keep my stress level low and well.....I managed to finally drop another 3 pounds......so I guess I just have to keep it up.....lower calorie intake, keep the water up, stress level down and START EXERCISING!!!!!!

Thanks for all your advice and knowledge...always helps to have someone from the outside looking in........
