  • fallen of the wagon.

Hi...I have been doing atkins for a few months now. Today I gave in to temptation. I had chinese food but did not have the rice. It was wonderful. I have lost 56 lbs so far. I have been really frustrated because I have stalled out. It seems impossible to lose anymore I have even started walking 2-3 miles a day to no avail. I know now that it did not make me feel better or 'comfort' me but I realized I will not gain anything from comfort food(except those pounds back). Anyone have any advice on how to work through a stall? Thanks

Woo, way to go on losing those 56 pounds! Awesome! Also, good for you for not eating the rice.

How long have you been stalled?
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

            Re: fallen of the wagon.

Ive had a few "falls" off the wagon.....did the chinese food thing too....without the rice, noodles or egg rolls....but kept on losing....then I noticed I hadnt lost anything for the past 12 days....when I sat back and looked at my fit day thing, I realized that even though my carbs were low....my calories went up higher by A LOT and my water intake went down. I guess the pot roast was too fatty of a meat as far as calories and having my mom here with me now has made me snack more on those darn pork rinds....which all together made for a big calorie jump....

The only advice I can give as a newbie is maybe just take a moment to reflect on what exactly you are eating...have you noticed an increase in the calories? Has your water intake decreased any? Or perhaps you are working out to the point that you arent seeing any pounds drop because you are turning it into muscle?

Anyway...cheers to you and hope you figure it out.....after figuring out my own thing and correcting it I finally came off my stall and dropped another 3 pounds.

Congratulations on ur loss, that is a lot of weight and i hope you are proud about how far you have come.

Stalls have gota be the most frustrating thing when losing weight. Ur doing everything ur supposed to and yet nothing happens. Please stick with it. Up ur water intake, esp now ur increasing ur exercise which will mean ur body will need more water anyway. Are you on OWL or extended Induction? if you are in OWL then maybe go back a rung?

drink loads of water after that chinese food ok? Always get back with your very next meal. You may see a slight gain from the msg but that will be water retention.

                  Re: fallen of the wagon.

Oh phew, only a couple of weeks! That's more of a weight loss "pause" rather than a stall then... also, how are your clothes fitting? I've had times where my weight was the same for a couple of weeks, but I went down a pants size.

It is perfectly normal to not experience weight loss each and every week. A lot of it has to do with the body wanting to maintain homeostasis, and with that, a fairly constant weight. As fat cells empty, a lot of times the body will store water in them for some time, only to suddenly release them. Thus, the "whooshes."

                  Patience is key.

                    Re: fallen of the wagon.

Here's my advice and how I see the situation (yes, I've been there - recently)...

You've hit a stall. Frustrating, but not the end of the world. You've indulged in some chinese food (yum!) - counterproductive, but again, not a catastrophe. Then, you came back here... BRILLIANT! It hasn't yet turned into a full day, week, month binge - much better for the resolve than looking back after a long period off-plan.

SOOOO... get up, dust off and climb right back on this here wagon. Drink a lot of water for the next few days (lotsa salt and spices in chinese food that may cause some water retention...) and consider a return to Induction for a couple of weeks. Not only will it get you back into a groove, but it's likely to pull you out of your stall (it did for me...)

Anyhow, best of luck to you. Keep your chin up! You know it's worth it~

This site rocks. It is like when I feel like giving up and I get on here and read about people and I am motivated again. The people here are great always supportive. Thanks a whole lot. I got on the scale this morning and actually lost 2 pounds. Even after the nasty chinese food incident.
