  • Muscular water retension

I posted this in the workout forum but I thought I'd try here too -

Has anyone experienced water weight gain after starting a new workout. My muscles are really sore and I thought I have heard, in the past, muscles will hold water as they recover..

    Thanks!

it is called super hydrating and very normal.

brook can go up 5 pounds in a week with a new to her exercise program even when she is cheat free Atkins.

          Yeah!
I have lost ( I think) a few of the pounds of H2O I was holding onto. I am sure I will continue to be up and down though this week. I am still getting used to my new routine. So far so good. Boy, have I been sore!! **in a good way**

              I know, I know...

The scale is a hard thing to let go. I had an easier time quiting smoking that I do quiting the scale! I threw it away once, but that just cost me 30 bucks to buy a new one!!!

This weight flutuation this week just prove the scale is EVIL. I most likely will continue to get on it but I will try not to take it the heart so much ( UNLESS I LOST!!) hehe!

I did the same thing. Got so frustrated with the scale I gave it to DD to take back to college with her. Next day, I was at Walmart getting another one!
I'm getting ready to have DS take this one and just bury it somewhere and not tell me where it is!

I start Curves on Monday and I was told that by the instructor that walked me through the use of the machines when I went for body my analysis. I just want to know when I can expect to lose the H2O weight again.

My first workout was Wednesday and by Thursday I was holding water. I kept really well hydrated Thurs and Friday, by Saturday night I was feeling less retension. This morning I weighed myself and I had lost 2 of the 3-4 pounds I was hold on to. I expect my body to do it again as I increase my workout intensity.

                      Re: Muscular water retension

A scale is not so bad. It’s like a true friend who tells you the truth whether it’s good news or not. But like any machine it has its limitations. Depending upon the quality of the scale, its reading could be impacted by many things, even the temperature and humidity in the room. Is your scale in your bathroom? Lots of temperature and humidity changes in there. Plus, it’s only so accurate even under constant conditions. If the error rate is 2 pounds, then it could read within a pound just because.

This is the one area I don’t follow the Atkins advice. I weigh myself each day and record the readings in a spreadsheet, and look at a few averages and graphs. After a month of data you can see a trend and it will be downward. Same with inches. Look at those trends, not any single number.

Compare this to weighing once each week. Suppose you just happened to be extra hydrated that one day you weigh yourself. The scale will be high and you’ll be depressed for a week.

Plus, as many here have said, you need to consider how much mussel you gain, how much fat you lose, how your cloths fit and how you feel. Use the scale, but don’t let it ruin your week!
