  • what to do to stay 'regular'?

i have been having a hard time staying regular and i was wondering what exactly needs to be done to mainain healthy bowel movements?

i have tried eating veggies before my meats, veggies afterwards, pineapple smooties (which work great ,but i can't and wouldn't want to drink it EVERYDAY!).i was wondering what everyone else does? i was thinking eating it with salads and raw veggies (which i have done before) but was confused because i read that meats (specificly red meats) needs an acidic enviroment in the gut in order to easily and fully digest the meats, and that eating veggies alkalizes the stomach acids therefore making it even harder to digest the meats!

i manage because i do eat chili or brown rice after my proteins but sometimes that makes it worse because it really 'dries out' my gut and seems to pull water out of it and makes it even harder.Any suggestions?
add some butter and brown rice? or is that bad? fat and complex starch?
asapragas?salad beforehand? afterwards? during? spicy foods on occassion?
hmmm i am kinda lost..i never really had an issue before because before i ate mostly rare meats and they digested soo much easier.

i don't like fiber laxatives and only use oxygen therapy (Oxypowder)when i really need it- but generaly i don't like using any kind of supplements.

    HELP!!

    got your book?

    drink water not pineapple smoothies
one tablesppon of psyllium husks daily. make sure it's sugar free.
    or
one tablespoon of coarse wheat bran or flaxseed meal. you can sprinkle that on your salad. ditch the laxative.
    ditch the brown rice.

i am assuming you are on indution. brown rice and pineapple juice are not on that menu.

oh i know i'm being repetitive... but i think rhubarb is a lifesaver in this department and it is induction friendly. Its worth a try in my humble opinion anyway.

Rhubarb, huh? How do you prepare/eat it? I've only had it in pies! LOL

In regards to the thread, flax works it for me. One delicious mock danish made with flaxmeal followed with lots of water works wonders for my regularity.

        Hope this helps

Flax is a wonderful thing!!! I make the induction friendly flax cookies and they are delicious, they also keep me very regular. Re-examine your diet, you have been ingesting some not so freindly high carb food. Unless you have worked through all the rungs, some of your food is not on the menu.
Either way, use flax seed to help stay regular.
Another day, in a new weigh!!!

i usually eat meat and veggies but do use fiber to get things moving along.i am at a very stable and comfortable weight so i am not worried about gaining or loosing too much. Also i am very lean and muscular- 'wirey' muscles, lean and cut ISDA prime beef!

since you are in maintnenace you can have whole grains too flax is from the nuts and seeds rung three of OWL which you have long passed. You can have berries too.

you can get fiber buy using the flax seeds but you lose the nutritional benefits of then so most of us grind then or buy them as flax seed meal. you can use it as a flour in making hotcakes or muffins. Not2late has a cracker recipe posted using it. You can add hot water and stir and have a cereal.

You can use more then 1T since you are not an inductee but since you are new to it start small with one and see how much you need.

cook the rhubarb on top of the stove and it will cook down. then add your sweetner of choice and some cinnamon for a tastey veggie. I love that on my flax hotcakes and cereal.

Re: what to do to stay 'regular'?

I had the same problem the other day. I took some fiber caps to jump start things. I then added 2Tbs flaxseed daily, either eating straight or sprinkling it on something. Today, for the first time in awhile, things were "on schedule".

I am going to continue the flaxseed, it seems to do the trick.

                  Hey universaltravelr....

Could i get a look at your super secret flaxseed cookie recipe? PLEASE!!

                      Universal-

I will try the "cookies". I like the idea of it being such a small batch. I still have portion control problems when it comes to goodies!!

you get it at Wal-M ? Thanks.
