Wasn't there a thread or something with ideas on what to order at a chineses restaurant? My sister has started Atkins this week and is going out with friends and is kind of panicking. I am not a big chinese restaurant eater, so I really can't help her.
Can anyone point me to a thread or give me ideas on what she can eat on induction?

    Re: Chinese restaurant eating

I think someone had posted a thread saying they were going out to dinner with friends and they were going out for chinese..what could they eat....if I remember correctly.

If your sister is going to a buffet style chinese restaurant, usually they will have crab legs, peel and eat shrimp, mussels in a garlic butter sauce....aside from the seafood...the only other thing that I will eat is the chicken and broccoli, beef and broccoli, chicken and mushrooms, the really red looking pork rib meat things, umm sometimes they have something called seafood delight which is crab, shrimp, lobster with veggies like cabbage and zucchini in a buttery sauce.....ummm lemme see....I think thats pretty much it. I do believe that we had established though that the sauce the put on the beef and broccoli and stuff isnt all that atkins friendly...but its better than eating the fried rice or eggrolls or noodles...oh and then they always have egg drop soup usually.

      Re: Chinese restaurant eating

My easiest and favorite entree at Chinese restaurants/buffets has been having chicken wings as my meal. Never had any problem with eating the wings at my favorite restaurant. I don't think they bread them there... a few other places in my area definitely do but only lightly.

Oh yeah, and if I find myself at a buffet, I've been known to crack open a crab rangoon and scoop the filling out, same with egg rolls... I try to look at the wrapper as packaging for the yummies rather than food in and of itself. And yes all the beef/mushroom/broccoli/chicken etc...
Now that I've been on OWL for a while and have journeyed through the rungs, I really REALLY enjoy a bowl of hot and sour soup too...

So yeah, I usually get wings as my meal with a bowl of hot and sour soup and I drink plum or jasmine tea.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

Ohh, good point. I'll ask her about the buffet, thanks!

I thought the chic/beef broccoli stuff was loaded with sugar in the sauce.
I remember having eggdrop soup, (I make better though LOL) Hmm.

OK, thanks. I sent out email to ask if it is a buffet. That would be too easy LOL.

LOL not a dork at all! Thank you for your help! She is not talking a buffet, she said.

I found this in the Dr. Atkin's Carb Gram Counter

              Egg Drop Soup
              Shrimp Sizzling Plattter
              Steamed tofu with vegetables
Stir fried pork with garlic sauce
              beef with chinese mushrooms
              steamed whole fish
              sauteed spinach with garlic
              Chicken with walnuts

NOTE: If you are on induction, stick to dishes that are stir-fried, steamed or broiled and ask for sauces to be served on the side. ON OWL, choose one sauced dish and one simply prepared dish. By the time you are on Pre-maintenance and Lifetime Maintenance and if your metablolism allows it - you may enjoy a half-cup to one cup of brown rice with your meal.

                Re: Chinese restaurant eating

My favorite Chinese buffet has both chicken wings and pork or beef on sticks. I start with a green salad and move on to the meat with a little taste of broccoli beef for good measure.

She could also eat a good bit before she heads out. That way she can eat enough to be polite without being hungry. I avoid any sauces because I neber know what's in them.

I would stick to the steammed meat and veg with the sauce on the side.

As an aside, I've been reading a Japanese cookbook about sushi.....I never realized how much sugar goes into the sauces and marinades!

                      Re: Chinese restaurant eating

I love chinese food, I just love the prawns and the dumplings ... I cry every time I think I can't eat dumplings anymore
But it's good to know that I can eat something at the restaurant. I avoided it last week because with the Induction I didn't want to put myself in a cheating-situation.

I always order the dish I want and ask them to make it without the sauce. I tell them I can not have sugars or starches because I am on dietary restrictions. LOL They always say it will taste bland and I tell them that's fine. I add soy sauce when they bring the meal. My favorites are beef and broccoli, egg foo young, and chicken with vegetables.

                          Re: Chinese restaurant eating

This is a timely thread!! Was travelling home today w/the family. Traffic; rain; long ride; blah-blah-blah; we skipped lunch. By 4 o'clock, we're heading home & starved. Everyone else wants Chinese!! I was in panic mode.

                          Here's what I did:

                          1. Ordered Salmon terriyaki - but stripped off the laywer of sauce.
                          2. Ate the broccoli out of the chick & broccoli.
                          3. Had a beef on a stick.
                          4. Had 2 california roll peices. Not great here - I know - but they had real ginger and killer wasabi.

I LOVE chicken wings - and read here that people eat them - but I'm always afraid of breading. Sometimes - frankly - I just can't tell!!
