  • Ketosis/CCLL

This may be a stupid question, but here goes: If you are still ketotic, you don't really need to worry too much about CCLL. I have increased my carbs a bit but I am still spilling ketones and I just wanted to double check.

But as you add carbs, you will need to find your CCLL. This is so you know how many carbs you can eat and still lose. Knowing the level of carbs you can eat will make it easier for you in the long run.

I see but I have actually reached a point (for now) where I don't need anymore carbs.

So does what I wrote before still stand?

Dr Atkins tells us that the ketone testing strips will probably stop changing colour at a point a little bit below your CCLL, and when that happens your CCLL will be a few carbs higher.
He also says that once we are consuming 50 or more net carbs a day that theywill not register either, so if you have a high CCLL you will need to judge it by whether you are losing weight and/or inches instead.
He mentions this in the section just after listing the Carbohydrate Ladder in Chapter 14 (OWL).

What stage of Atkins are you at now, dazedkid?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

remember that color on a stix doesn't mean you are losing weight nor that you arre doing your atkins correctly. eatting too much fat not exercising all will give lovely dark ppurple color but not much if an weight lose.

Each person needs to know their CCLM and CCLL because if you are one carb over that CCLM limit then you are stopping your fat burning and doing fat storing

Does that mean you would technically be in Ketosis but since fat ratio is so high, you are storing more fat than what your body is burning??

                Over-eating fat, or in general?
Wouldn't your body be knocked out of Ketosis if you were overeating?

I have been in ketosis now for almost 3 months, and I have dropped 40 pounds. I also jog 30 minutes 5-6x a week. I have incorperated low carb bread and low carb chocolate ice cream into my diet (the latter I eat about 1/2 a cup full max), along with burgers, cheese, salad, and small amounts of cottage cheese. My carb count a day is probably a little over 20.

No, I am definitely still ketotic and, with rigorous exercise, have dropped 40lbs. I just see no reason in increasing my carbs if I am ketotic. I am still loosing about 2lbs a week...

My question just involved the CCLL and ketosis.

I'll be honest...I don't know, nor will I pretend to know.

It sounds like you are doing an extended/modified induction (20 carbs but added foods).

It definatly sounds like it's works for you!! My only concern is if you ever decided to want more carbs, you woun't know what your limit (CCLL) is.

Good luck and I hope you find the answers you are looking for. I am curious too.

if you're still in ketosis and you are still losing, then you haven't reached your CCLL so don't worry about it.

                          Re: Ketosis/CCLL

Cranberry is correct. You find your CCLL by increasing your net carbs to the point where you stop losing weight/inches. Then you drop back by 5 net carbs and see if you begin losing. If you do, then you know that if you exceed that amount, you will stop losing weight. That number is your CCLL.

If you have a high CCLL (over 50), you might not register on those ketostix.

Rae-Marie, that is not extended induction. Extended induction is the exact same rules as induction, just you have extended it beyond the 2 weeks. You may be thinking of modified OWL, you add the rungs in the order they were meant to be added etc, but adjusting keep your carb counts around induction levels rather than going up 5.

I just want to point out that it's very important to go through OWL and find your CCLL for your maintainance.
