  • Do you swim?

I posted this is the exercise forum, but it didn't get much action. Hopefully, I'll have better luck with it here.

I started swimming at our local community pool last week. It was hard walking out there in my bathing suit! Anyway, I'm swimming a variety of strokes - side, front crawl, back crawl & back stroke.

I found out that 1 lap (up and back) is 50 meters.

The first day I swam: 6 laps (in 30 min)
Second day: 8 laps (in 30 minutes)
Third day: 10 laps (in 30 minutes) then treaded water for an additional 5 minutes.

Along with walking our dogs 3.3 miles (in 65 minutes) 3 times a week.

What kind of calories am I burning here? Anyone?

And, while this may be a stupid question, I'm going to ask anyway. How am I going to lose weight when all this added exercising is making me HUNGRY! Man, I'm eating like it's going out of style. I mean, I'm starving!

I eat three, well rounded squares a day, plus probably 3 more little snacks thoughout a typical day - so my blood sugar should be good, but I'm starting to out eat my husband. And that scares me! Could the swimming be to blame?

I don't swim---bad memories---cousins, boat, pond, me 5 years old, they threw me out so I would learn how to swim. I floated, swam, been scared of the water ever since.

Anyhow, swimming is great exercise! I can't tell you how many calories you are using, but good for you!

I have to ask you what your CCLL is. When I upped my exercise, I found that all my appetite suppression went away---hungry all the time, not really satisfied at meal time, etc. After alot of reviewing and re-adjusting, I found that my CCLL changed and that I had to eat more carbs in order to get that appetite suppression back.

      Re: Do you swim?

I am ashamed and embarrassed to say, I don't know what it is. I did real good in the beginning of OWL, but stopped keeping track of the numbers. I just added 5 grams here, 5 grams there. Since I started exercising more, I have increased my carbs and continue to lose though.

      <Hanging head> I should know better.

Do you use www.fitday.com to keep a track of your food intake?
If so you can add your swimming to the 'activities' section and choose how many minutes you swam and in what manner and it will calculate calories for you. You can even enter your 5 minutes treading water (either vigorously or leisurely) too.
They even have a choice for walking the dog!! - btw your 3.3 miles in 65 minutes worked out at about 150 calories for someone my size!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

I'm registered with Fitday, just been lazy about keeping it up. I'll have to get right back into it.

But hey - 150 calories for your size? That's great!
          Thank you

            Re: Do you swim?

Go figure it out, because as you increase your exercise (and your metabolism) your CCLL changes. When I first found my CCLL it was 35, now it's 50.

                Re: Do you swim?

I logged into Fitday yesterday and logged my food for the day. I also weighed yesterday and today.

My carb total was 37! I had no idea I was eating that amount. I would have guessed 30 at most! Anyway, the scale was down a half pound this morning. (I swam 400 meters last night - couldn't get my full 500 in because they were closing early for a swim meet.)

Think I should keep pushing the envelope?
