    Hi Kelly

Have you been on Atkins Induction for 2 weeks? Are you doing any exercise, are you drinking at least 2 litres of water per day, have you read the book, are you sticking to the diet? How much have you lost/need to lose?

If we can find out alittle more about you then we can direct you on your way to losing weight!

      Re: 10lbs a month

It's really easy to look at those numbers and get excited or have high expectations. Let me help you out with this.....

      DON'T!!

Honestly, it's a numbers game. A fair expectation of weight removal over a CLEAN 2 week induction is 5-10% of the total amount of weight you need to remove. Anything less than that would indicate metabolic resistance. Anything more than that is a gift from the Whoosh Fairy.

Example: If someone starts out with 120lbs to lose, they can realistically expect to lose somewhere between 6-12lbs in those first two weeks (most DO lose more!).

If someone starts out with 20lbs to lose, they can realistically expect to lose 1-2lbs.

It doesn't sound like much, but percentage wise BOTH people removed the same amount of weight - A numbers game!

When we say "Clean Induction" around here, that's exactly what we mean! Eat only items from the Acceptable Foods List, adhere to the restrictions of it (no more than 3-4oz of cheese a day, an ounce of cream, your veggies, etc), drink lots and lots of water - and then drink more, exercise regularly, take your supplements.

It's work, but it gets easier and easier with each passing day and it doesn't take long for it to become second nature. Utilize the forums here for food and recipe ideas - they're plentiful! There's NO EXCUSE for getting bored with the food.

Be sure to remember to take your measurements too. Your fat losses will not always show on the scale, but who cares?!!! I have yet to buy a pair of pants with a weight requirement sewn in the back of them. I buy pants all the time that have a waist size in them 5lbs might not get you in the next size down, but you can bet an inch off your waist will! Remember that as you exercise you will build lean muscle. Lean muscle is much more dense than fat, see? :

You can remove 5lbs of fat and build 5lbs of muscle. The weight on the scale will remain the same, but you WILL be smaller - and burning more calories at a resting rate because of that beautiful muscle!

Thank you for your responses. I haven't started the diet yet. I'm trying to find out more about it. I ordered 100.00 worth of food that should arrive today. I know a lot of that Atkins food is not for the induction phase I'll let you all know how it tastes. Anyone recommend a certain item from ATkins? I'm a very picky eater!

None of it tastes as good as good meats, cheeses and fresh vegetables. I hope you can return it.

I hope you ordered the book Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, published in 2002, as well.
What is it, a RACE? It's coming off, right????

If you wana find out more about the diet, buy the book! You should be able to get it from Ebay pretty cheap. There are plenty of stickies on this forum to give you a fair idea on how the diet works but definately buy the book so you will always have it to hand.

What food have you ordered? Did you order it from the Atkins website? You're not allowed any bars or shakes in Induction and most people on here will tell you to avoid it regardless of what stage you're in. Check out the acceptable foods list and find foods on there that you like. Or try stuff that you've never tried before, you never know you might find something that you love!

              Re: 10lbs a month

Thanks for the advice. I mainly ordered atkins batter, ketchup, soup, bread mix and such. Mainly stuff just used for baking. I read the book a couple of years ago, but I don't remember much....just to eat meat, cheese, and eggs and limit veggies to 3 cups a day which will work for me! I love meat and cheese...gotta make my self eat the veggies though. I went on this diet at the beginning of this month and lost 6lbs...went on vacation for 2 weeks and gained it back! I was so weak by day 7.....I missed my Regular Coca-Cola! Is it normal to be weak at the beginning of the diet?

                Re: 10lbs a month

It is normal, called the induction flu. It's your body ridding itself of sugar. There is a very specific list of acceptable foods for induction, it can be found in the stickies in this and the 14-day induction forum. Many of the ingredients in the foods you ordered will not be on the allowed list and you will lose much better w/o them.

But please read the book and refresh yourself on the details. YOu will avoid much frustration.

                  Re: 10lbs a month

You will probably go through a sugar craving during your first week. You have to take it one day at a time and keep drinking your water.

Are you able to cancel your order? You shouldnt be eating those products, definately not during Induction. How much do you want to lose?

I'll save the products for after induction. I want to lose about 65lbs...I currently weigh 200.....height 5'4......age 26...so basically a loooong road ahead! The sad thing is that I have been planning to lose weight for the last 7 years...and it just go worse!! Hopefully this time is different. I see our stats are almost the same...that's cool

                      Re: 10lbs a month

Sorry, I totally didnt see ur ticker! Doh!

Ye only a pound from 200! Scary stuff. But I'm getting further and further away from it, slowly but surely. I lost 3 stone on this WOE last year and gained 2 stone back after my fathers sudden passing. Turning to food always seems like the best idea at the time but it really wasnt. Now I'm back on track with a fantastic holiday to work towards.

Get urself a copy of the book and read it cover to cover. Do yourself a weekly plan of meals and shopping list, using the acceptable foods list. Take it slowly, one day at a time. The first week you may suffer from the sugar withdrawal (induction flu). Symptoms range from headaches, nausea, tiredness and feeling low. Your body is getting rid of all the cr*ppy sugar in ur system. Please bear with this stage as its crucial that you do a CLEAN induction with no cheating. Take things slowly and drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins quicker and kick start ketosis. It will take ur body roughly 3 days to start burning fat instead of carbs.

Exercise - find something that you enjoy and keep at it. The gym works for me, its not incredibly fun but it fits into my schedule and I can do it whether rain or shine. Plus I work out different parts of my body in one workout. But do whatever works for you and do it 3-4 times a week or what ever you can afford to do.

I lost 11lbs on my 2 week Induction which means I have a slow metabolism. The weight loss reduces to about 2-3 lbs per week after the first 2 weeks and I'm doing extended Induction and work out 4 times a week. I do all my exercise during the week so at the weekends I can chill out with my partner (and maybe get some extra curicular activities in too!)

I could go on for ages but if you read the book it will cover everything. If you have any questions feel free to post on the boards. Everyone is really friendly and supportive and you will feel that you have been here for years!!

If you like cooking and experimenting, check out this website:

It has lots of recipes and even ones for Induction too.

                      Good luck!

You'll get tired of hearing this, but get the book and read it cover to cover. It works and you will be eating so much healthier.

                            Good luck!

                              Hi Kelly,
Please don't use what we call "frankenfoods", they tend cause more problems than they solve (cravings, tummy upset, etc.). What is so great about Atkins is that you will lose quickly and easily eating whole, fresh foods that won't break the bank. Don't prescribe to the notion that you have to eat the frankenfoods to be doing low carb.

About the 10 lbs per month, your body will do what it will. In my journey, I have lost only a couple pounds in a month, and I have lost 11 pounds in a month. You simply cannot control how fast your body will drop weight. I know it is difficult, but you have to try to not measure your success by the number on the scale. Good luck, and read the book!
