Re: HELP...this is hard!!
Hey there. The first few days are the hardest because you have to break your addiction to carbs. The key is to keep several handy induction friendly snack bags around. I cube up cheese, hamburgers, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, etc. and keep them in handy zipper baggies in my frig at home and at work. It minimizes the trips to the snack machine (AKA FAT Machine). ALSO, it really helps the first few days to just eat the induction friendly foods in small portions a few times a day. Drink tons of water. Force yourself to drink so much every hour. That is the only way to train your brain. I've lost over 20 lbs. since April. It takes work but you can do it.
I just went thru the last boot camp. I would recommend, if you're willing to commit, to sign up for that. It really helps. I didn't realize I was reading parts of the book wrong at first. It also helps to post questions you may have about items you are unclear on.
ALSO, visit the journal chats forum. It really helps to put your thoughts down so you can track your moods, your food triggers, your exercise, etc. I found it REALLY helps.

Re: HELP...this is hard!!
Yes... the first few days are the worst. Once you've gotten over induction flu and broken your addiction to carbs it gets much easier. You'll suddenly wake up one day feeling full of energy and no longer craving. This really does happen.
Fit4me is right... plan ahead and always have an induction legal snack on hand. Drink litres and litres of water. Take your supplements.
You can do this! Just hang in there! Before and after:

Re: HELP...this is hard!!
I agree - the first few days are the hardest.
1. Clean out your house of all tempting foods.
2. Buy only Atkins-friendly foods - shop on the perimeter of the grocery store.
3. Drink bucketloads of water
4. Exercise
5. Believe in yourself
6. Believe in this Way of Eating
7. Come to this board and ask questions and get support. We are here for you!

Re: HELP...this is hard!!
Hang in there!!!
It's going to get better! I was addicted to sweets Big time and I would even eat sugar free candy all the time and diet cokes.
I am in Total amazment now, because now that I stopped on those items I don't even crave them anymore at all!
I just passed up cheese cake at my lunch today and I don't feel deprived at all. They are telling you the truth. The first 3 days are the worst. After that time passes you will be rid of that addiction to sweets. I keep cheese cubes on hand (colbyjack) and it helps me get through those tough moments.

Re: HELP...this is hard!!
Kelly, remember that you are going to have it tough until your body switches from a sugar burning machine (glycolysis) to a fat burning machine (ketosis). Ketosis is so wonderful because it curbs your appetite and gives you energy. Just keep in mind that this will be your reward for struggling to switch to ketosis.
Also, keep in mind that being in ketosis means you will be using YOUR FAT for energy (along with fat you eat). That is very exciting.

Re: HELP...this is hard!!
That sugar addiction is rough. I went to Vegas recently and went way off the edge of cheating and I am suffering from those sugar cravings again. Its like once you break the addiction too sugar its best too just never cheat or you will have to deal with it again.
P.S. Thanks for thinking of me

Re: HELP...this is hard!!
It WILL get better.
What I did was make sure I stayed busy. Instead of eating when I craved something, I grabbed a bottle of water and went for a walk. You will figure out what works for you, then it will be a piece of cake...I mean cheese!
