  • Suggestions for Alcohol

I will be moving to the Alcohol Rung next week and I was wondering what can I have to drink. I like red wine and a dark liquor mixed with water. I don't drink hardly at all, but I am planning on purchasing either wine or a liquor so please any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Suggestions for Alcohol

My alcohol indulgences have mostly been a glass of wine here or there. I've also had rum and diet coke a couple times, but the diet coke is tooo sweet.

I recently found that Walmart has a sugar free version of Crystal Light that is cranberry flavored...I haven't tried it yet, but I want to try a vodka and cranberry with that stuff. I'm not much of a drinker, and usually only have the wine when I go out to dinner with my DH.

I have some raspberries sitting in a bottle of Vodka, cant wait to try it, going to let it sit for awhile. It was Heidi's Idea. I think some of the raspberry infused vodka over some ice will make for a nice treat...

I love Crystal light lemonade or Raspberry lemonade or crystal ligth cranberry with Vodka as well. I have enjoyed these drinks well before low carbing .....

        Re: Suggestions for Alcohol

For the alcohol rung, you can more or less drink whatever alcoholic beverage you want. Just be mindful of the fortified wines and some liquers. Fortified wines (port) tend to be higher carb than the regular wines. Some liquers tend to have added sugars, so they too are higher carb.

The other thing you'd want to be careful about are cocktail additives like grenadine and lime juice. Grenadine is loaded with sugar---something like 20 grams per tablespoon. Bottle lime juice (ie: Rose's lime juice) is also loaded with sugar. Also there are some cocktails that use sugar syrup or teaspoons of sugar.

So if you like cocktails, you might want to invest in a bartender's book or make friends with the on-line cocktail sites. That way you can look up a drink and see exactly what goes into it.

I forgot to add....Since there are alcoholic beverages that have 1 carbs or 1 carb, you really can't apply the 5 net carb rule to them without lapsing into an alcoholic coma.

So you might want to follow these guidelines about "moderate" drinking:

Thanks my ADBB Friends! I hardly drink, in fact I have not had an alcoholic beverage in over a year. Can you give a name of a good wine to drink. B/c that is probably what I will have 1 or 2 glasses of and that is it.

No alcohol in a year... = cheap date! (or it will not take much for you to be silly!) My favorite wine from a past life was Berringer White Zinfadel (it was a pink colored wine that was on the sweet side and went with everything!)
