  • McDONALDS

    So um, yeah.
Went to McDonalds today and got 2 cheeseburgers. Took em home, ditched the buns and ate the burgers n cheese.
    Delicious.
A lil of what I fancied.

Now, I think that this is ok.
I haven't done it before and I prob won't again for a long time.
But the burgers seem to be pure beef with a pinch of salt and um, a slice of cheese.

    Opinions please?
    Let's hear ya!

    Re: McDONALDS

I've done that before too, and even splurged on the double cheeseburger ones! And I couldn't tell you where for the life of me, but recently I read on the board where that was okay. The meat is real with no fillers and the cheese is fine. If I can find that post again I'll post the link for you.

Yeah, McDonald's doesn't put fillers in their burgers anymore. The cheese has 2 carbs a slice in it because it's processed cheese food instead of real cheese though. Carbwise, it's not bad. The only bad thing about McDonald's is that they do use trans fats to fry things there (even the burgers), and on their nutrition website, they do show some trans fat in those burgers. So it's not exactly "healthy," but it's not carby.

At this link, you can pick any menu item and then take off what you wouldn't eat (like the bun or ketchup) on the checklist, and get nutrition facts on the part you would actually eat. http://app.mcdonalds.com/bagamcmeal?process=menuitems It's really cool.

Oh, I just wanted to add that I get McDonald's from time to time... sounded a bit "high and mighty" in that last post about the trans fats, lol... I get the burgers without buns sometimes, and you're right, it IS yummy.

          That's a great link.
Wow, look at all the stuff in the bun!
Enriched bleached flour (bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, reduced iron), water, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, yeast, contains less than 2 % of each of the following: salt, calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, calcium silicate, wheat gluten, soy flour, baking soda, emulsifier (mono- and diglycerides, diacetyl tartaric acid esters of fatty acids, ethanol, sorbitol, polysorbate 20, potassium propionate), sodium stearoyl lactylate, dough conditioner (corn starch, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, calcium peroxide, ascorbic acid, azodicarbonamide, enzymes), calcium propionate (preservative). Contains wheat and soybean ingredients.

i would just like to add that I like mcdonalds chicken but the king of burgers is definitely burger king. I don't know if they have any fillers but they sure do taste good. like right off the grill. Anyways just adding what I prefer. Oh, I add it to a small salad and put some ranch (2carbs) too. Is that all okay?

              Yeah, I'd do it.

It's good to have choices that hold up in a hurry out in the "real world." I try to cook as much as I can, but sometimes I'm out with friends or family and I'm hungry and that's where they want to go! I think it's important to try to make Atkins work in any setting.

Sure I do Mickey D's! LOL I just ask them to make it "protein style", and they'll box it with some lettuce and tomato. That's how I avoid the temptation of having to throw away the bread myself. I do this for the burgers (hold the ketchup, please!) and the grilled chicken sammiches. Their salads are awesome with the grilled chicken. I go there during the school year on my way to work (yeah... teacher...) and order a side of eggs with two sides of sausage. They're happy to box it in one box if I think to ask. Surprizingly, it's been one of the Atkins-friendlier fast-food chains IMHO.

McD's and other fast food places usually have something you can order, if ya gotta... but be on the lookout for the carbs that hide out in even the most innocent of choices. If you can get the broken down information on what's in the item minus select toppings and bread.

http://www.dietfacts.com/fastfood.asp gives a lot of info from a wide range of fast food; even so, nether this nor your link provides enough information for me to know how many carbs were in the 6 McNuggets I ate, minus what I peeled off the outside first. I guestimated 1-2 grams left each, for possible modified food starch mixed in with the meat parts before breading & frying.

This was just what I've been looking for... I grab a cheeseburger there now and then don't eat the bun. Thanks, changing.

*giggles* I think PH is the board Stud!!

That link is fantastic, now I know that if I ever get caught out without food then I can get away with a burger without a bun.
The grilled chicken salad is 12 carbs!! But I'm guessing that I subtract the fibre too? So 9 carbs, abit steep for Induction me thinks!

Changing actually the cheese at McDonalds is Pasteurized Process American Cheese not cheese food. we have several topics about what pasterized processed American cheese so I won't biore y'all with it all again is but is is legal Atkins food as it is two aged cheeses mixed together and formed into a block.
