  • Carb Blockers?

I saw them in Walmart a few weeks ago, and have been throwing the idea back and for as to try them or not.

They claim to block carb intake and speed up your metabolism, but I'm in two minds whether it's a scam or not. I can't remember what they were called, as there were a range of different brands ranging from $8 to $11.

Does anyone know if they actually work, or are they just a pile of you-know-what?

      Re: Carb Blockers?

Have you seen what the average Walmart shopper looks like Steph?? lol My first instinct would be to say they are a pile of you-know-what cuz otherwise we'd all take them and be skinny. On the other hand, there is probably someone around here who has some experience with them and could give you a better answer.

You are doing great though, why would you even consider taking them?

Thank you! lol I thought as much when I saw that it said "Statements not approved by the FDA" but I'd seen them on sale back in the UK last year and over there, everything on sale has to be approved...

ahhh, I'm content with my sugar free, 2g carb chocolate. I only eat it to, er, regulate my body without pills lol.

I did however try Adios slimming pills a few years ago. While on them, I lost a few lbs because I wasn't snacking, but I'm still convinced they were a placebo. They looked, and tasted, like choclate free m&m's lol

My friend is trying them and I don't notice a difference in her, though she's not on a low-carb diet and tends to cheat somewhat on her "healthy" diet

                  Re: Carb Blockers?

These pills are designed for folks who eat a lot of starchy carbs (breads, chip, etc) and the main ingredients are supposed to bind to the carbs and not allow them to be digested and turned into glucose.

Whether this works or not, I am not sure. However, they claim to cause bowel problems, so yuck to that.

Also, on this plan, we don't eat lots of starchy carbs so for that reason alone, you would waste your money whether it works or not.

                        Re: Carb Blockers?

Those starch blockers are all over the place, not just WalMart. I did quite a bit of study on the subject, before trying them at some point before joining in this WOL. Earlier extracts of the white kidney bean (pre "Phase 2") proved completely worthless in many studies. The newer Phase 2, in several products for sale now, do prevent digestion of some complex carbs you eat, but only if the enzyme produced by your body to break the bonds doesn't get to the carb first.

                        1. Your body makes this enzyme from the minute you start thinking about eating, beginning with saliva & digestive juices flowing.
                        2. Your body makes LOTS of this, capable of breaking far more carb bonds than the suggested dose of phaseolus.
                        3. The blocker does NOTHING to prevent absorption of simple carbs, like sugars or those found in alcoholic beverages; it only prevents breakage of longer carb chains.
                        4. The unbroken carb chains can still be broken down by other avenues than amylase (enzyme) further along in your system, leaving nil undigested in normal individuals.

If you think you can eat 2 pills and then a plate of spaghetti and not pay the piper, go for it. I'll be ROFLMFAO when you start whining about cravings, gas, and diarrhea...
