  • Having a flu bug and staying on plan

So, I've got a bug of some sort, I'm thinking the flu. Stomach problems, upper respiratory, achy joints etc.

I haven't eaten anything today but I am focusing on just getting fluids in me, 2 bottles of water so far, 2 cups green tea, I made some SF jello and I've got some chicken broth in the cabinet.

I sort of feel hungry, but I don't really know what to eat...perhaps some veggie soup I can make with the chicken broth? Probably not a good idea to add any dairy products, I'd imagine.

I don't come bearing advice, unfortunately, however I do wish you a speedy recovery! Flu is a horrible thing to have simply because it leaves you almost unable to do anything, and makes everything 10 times harder.

For now just focus on getting better!

Aww Valid...I hope you feel better soon.........I know that when I was growing up my mom used to heat up chicken broth and beat a raw egg into it so essentially it was like egg drop soup....but the hot chicken broth kind of made you feel better *emotionally like a warm blanket* and the egg in it gave you a little protein boost......I know now its Atkins friendly...but gosh my mom did that for us for years.....

      Feel better soon!

Feel better soon, Joy. Making egg drop soup with your chicken broth sounds like a good thing for your tummy if you can handle it. Just eat what you feel you can do and drink those fluids!

Surely chicken soup with an egg dropped into it would be a perfect Atkins-legal soup.

adding tofu is also a good soup! High protein and virtually tasteless

                  Hope you're feeling better soon!

Re: Having a flu bug and staying on plan

I am feeling better today, thanks for the suggestions guys.

I made sure that I drank water all day yesterday, I had some hot green tea and some jello too. I didn't want to go out to the grocery, so I had to make do with what I had here. I ate some green beans and last night I made a soup with one piece of chicken I had and some spinach, chicken broth and a dollop of cream. It stayed down and I do feel better today, though I am a bit dehydrated still.

I didn't fall victim to the old "coke/sprite/crackers/toast" mantra that we've heard our whole lives...even my DH told me to do that. I KNEW that if I ate any of those things that they would only make me SICKER.

This morning though, my stomach is growling but I still don't want to over do it. I feel good enough to go see what I can find that's appealing at the store.

                      oh poor ValidRouge!
I know how you felt 'cause I have high fever rightnow!
I spent a sleepless night and I'm not really hungry I'm drinking but I surely don't like chicken soup! The thing is that I'm in bed and I'm aching all over so I can barely move.
that's so crap I'm scared I'll gain weight 'cause I'm not working out!

Roshen, just keep yourself hydrated. My joints just ACHED yesterday, I took some ibuprofen and just laid around all day. The achy joints was worse than the stomach I think. Hope you feel better soon.

Hope it isn't catching on the board... you all getting sick one after another Validrouge then Roshen... If chicken soup isn't up your alley, then sipping another kind of stomach-friendly broth will do the same thing. Boullion, herbal teas and even sipping diet coke can help. The main thing is they all help with fluids and some electrolytes. Then forget crackers, and just start eating with something easy to digest that's right for your diet phase. Get well soon!
