I'm thinking of adding 1/2 a banana to my daily regimen. Has anyone had any bad experiences, cravings, falling out of ketosis, weight gain from this delicious fruit?

    Re: Bananas

It falls in rung 7, so you already know how your body will handle some higher glycemic foods, right?

I LOVE bananas, and they never caused any problems for me. I always followed the advice of eating them with a fat so my blood sugar wouldn't spike. Usually cheese or peanut butter.

    Enjoy!
What is it, a RACE? It's coming off, right????

      Re: Bananas

Is this your first fruit other than berries?
If so, the glycemic load of a banana is quite heavy. It can cause cravings.
You may want to start with a higher fiber fruit like an apple. a small one. Add protein with it as well. Cheese is a great accompanyment to apples. Brie, havarti, string......

        Re: Bananas

Yep they are higher GI then other fruits so if you had any trouble with food cravings you might want to use lower GI fruits first

i didn't have any atkins troublew with them but discovered they didn't have the appeal they used to for me. guess having berries more often earlier spoiled me.

I'm guessing you never had a pb and banana sandwich, Angel? (on white bread of course - lol) It was a staple when I was growing up. Peanut butter and banana is a very nice combo. Probably yummier without that pesky white bread blocking the flavours.

A grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich was a favorite of Elvis Presley!

Anyhow, I agree with the others, bananas have a higher glycemic load than the other OWL fruits. So it depends on how your body reacts to that "sugar burst".

The USDA Nutrient Database lists a "small banana" (defined as 6-7 inches long) has about 20 net carbs. So if you add it in, make sure you monitor yourself for any blood sugar instability symptoms and/or weight loss problems.
