  • Just the flax, ma'am...

Doing a little research on the benefits of flax this morning. It's the first time living this WOL that I finally broke down and decided... ok-fine-I'll-try-a-little-flax...

Oh and I also finally tried jicama... now I'm addicted to jicama. LOL But anyhow, back to the flax...

I learned that flax is better freshly ground, so I need to go today and buy a coffee grinder. I learned that many folks prefer the golden flax seeds. m'kay I learned that the milled flax is much easier for my body to take to and is just about all fiber. Farm out I can disc it (Kansas humor) hehe

So I made some flax pancakes. Not bad! Found several recipes and will definitely try this one for flax seed muffins http://www.dakotaflax.com/recipes/lowcarb.html

What are some ways you have found to add more flax to your daily regimen?

I like to make the flax crackers and mix in some parmesean and fennel seeds and then spread homemade pimento cheese on them or peanut butter.

remember for those muffins you need to be on the 6th rung of OWL to have the soy flour. We have many flax mufin recipes in our database.

Actually flax is about way more then fiber it is very high in Omega 3s and actually is over 60% fats and can be subbed in recipes for the fat. It will develope an egg white like slime if boiling water is added and stirred for a few minutes that can be used as an egg sub in baking too.
Humans can't digest the whol;e seed which is why we grind it up to release the nutriants.

I love flax crakers/chips, hot cereal, flax rollz, flax in the mock danish, flax and Protein powder "cake" ( actually overcooked flax/PP cereal) flax pudding. I have yet to find a way to fix it that I don't like.

Is the database down? I haven't been able to connect to it yet. Is it http:///www.lowcarbrecipes.org?

I add boiling water to my flax with a bit of stevia, blueberries and a dash of soy milk for a hot cereal.

What happens if someone eats the whole seed? Will it pass straight through with no nutrients like a piece of wood or grass?
