  • small amount of sugars

    Hi all!

I'm in induction right now and have a question for you all. Are foods such as sausages, cured meats, etc., with small amounts of sugar made into them okay? Say for instance, I eat some cheddar cheese (1g carbs per serving) with some salami (1g carbs per serving), but under ingredients it lists sugar, will that be okay as long as I keep counting the carbs?

    Thanks!

    Re: small amount of sugars

    Good morning!

I think if you go "according to the book" you are not allowed any sugars. So, if you read the ingredients and sugar is listed (or some form of sugar), then it is not allowed.

    Best wishes on your journey!

Try to read all labels very carefully. Any cured meat has trace amounts of sugars. try to limit those. The nitrates are carcinogenic anyway so try to purchase "the cleanest food possible" and count those in your daily intake. Shredded cheeses have potato starch to prevent it from clumping so shredding your own is a good idea. The natural sugars in cheese are a result of the lactose. Notice the "ose" anything that ends in ose is a sugar. Even Best Foods mayo has a trace amount of sugar. It's hard to avoid when purchasing pre-packaged foods. Your deli meats always have sugar added to them so cooking your own meats with your own seasoning is the best idea. I always cook a few chicken breasts for my own homemade almond chicken salad.
