And it was grand but I coulda rolled around kissing my fridge, counters, cabinets and stove when we got home yesterday. DH got an irresistable deal at a five diamond resort for a week, we got a huge suite for less than a standard room with a large terrace offering breathtaking views.
But the food!!! Our first morning there breakfast was $54 for just the two of us. Low carb was not held in any affection with the chefs. There wasn't even a simple garden salad on the menu. Despite the usual courteous service of the staff when I explained my dietary needs I got a somewhat stiff reply that they could possibly pull a chef off the line to cater to my culinary desires. I got the distinct impression that this was considered a huge imposition and would cost us dearly. DH and I got a rental car for one day and found a supermarket where I loaded up on whatever low carb items I could fit in the tiny fridge we conned a darling young employee into letting us use without charging us the usual ridiculous fee. I ordered the simplest breakfast on the menu and of course gave DH the half I could not eat. The rest of the day I made do with what was in the fridge. The one evening we had dinner in one of the resort restaurants I couldn't pursuade the waiter to allow me to substitute a high carb side item with broccoli (which was on the menu).
It got a bit hard for me to really enjoy the rest of the advantages the resort offered because food was a consistant problem. I longed for a working class restaurant where I could have a nice steak and salad any way I wanted it. There was an incredible pool area which I was more than happy to stay busy at and I got a great tan while I sloshed around with noodles or swam around and my arms, tummy and legs got nicely toned. The resort and surrounding views were stunning in beauty. DH is an avid golfer and loves the courses in the area despite the 108 degree temps. The staff wants us to come back next year and DH has promised to rent a car for the entire trip if we do (we usually do have one for any vacation but didn't reserve one this time). He was willing to pay whatever was needed for me to eat as I needed to but to be honest I was a struggling single mom for quite a while and the value of a dollar will always be a strong issue with me. We can buy a couple of nice pieces of furniture with what we saved by not ordering three meals a day at the resort. Meals I would not be able to eat at least half of.
I am about to go Krogering and at the top of my list are sirloins and produce for a nice fresh salad!
