Ok, so as many of you know, Splenda's patent has expired and can now be sold generically. Wal*Mart was, of course, dying to get a piece of the action (they've always been very low-carb friendly), and put out a generic Splenda soon after the patent expiration. Their generic Splenda comes in a yellow box with red writing and accents and is called "Altern." I bought mine at a Wal*Mart Supercenter. It has the same exact ingredient list to the Splenda one. I have been using Altern for a few weeks and have found it to be identical for my purposes to the Splenda brand sucralose, and I'm able to buy it for about 30% cheaper!
I know a lot of people boycott Wal*Mart out of principle because of how they treat their workers and what happens to small towns when a Wal*Mart moves into town, but the prospect of generic Splenda genuinely excited/excites me as I buy mostly store brands as a general rule due to our limited budget because of my full-time student (during the year) status.
I wanted to ask if anybody out there had seen generic Splenda (sucralose) at any other grocery stores. Also, if they'd seen any liquid Splenda/sucralose on the shelves.
Thanks, guys!
