  • Total Net Carbs All Over The Board

Okay, I have a question.....how does one move on to OWL when their carbs are all over the board?
I dont "not eat" certain foods for any reason.....I just eat as I go along during the day....it sort of depends on what all I have to do and what I have planned or if I have anything ready, etc..........
For those of you who have read my Journal Stats that I started on 7/1/06...you'll see my total net carbs are all over the place...some days its around 16 or 19 and then other days its around 6 or 10....how do I move on to OWL?

Take an average of your carbs. For example, if you average 15 net carbs daily, try to eat within that range for a week or two. Then add 5 net carbs to that for your OWL move.

This will force you to meal plan a little better. By "meal plan", I don't mean sitting down every evening and writing a detailed menu for the following day. What I mean is you need to start being aware of the type of carbs you are eating for each meal. For example, your breakfast is 5 net carbs today and you average 15 net carbs daily. Then for the remainder of the day you know you have 10 net carbs to "spend". But let's say tomorrow, your breakfast is 7 net carbs, you know that the rest of the day you have 8 net carbs to spend and you need to choose your foods accordingly. That might mean you'll have to cut out a tablespoon or two of heavy cream or cut out a serving of artificial sweetener or substitute a tablespoon of butter for an ounce of cheese or an egg.

Don't cut the carbs by eating less than your minimum daily vegetable amount (3 cups of the Induction veggies), because those veggies are important to your general health. Instead, choose your veggies carefully by eating combinations of the lower carb veggies with the higher carb ones. For example, rather eating the lowest carb veggies for 1 day then eating the slightly higher carb ones the next, eat a mix of them every day so you more or less eat the same number of veggie carbs.
