    Re: "I NEED MOTIVATION" THREADS

You're a better listener than me, Barb....The times I've been dragged to listen to motivational speakers, they only motivated me to wish I was anywhere but there

It may not have been meant in that context, but it sure seemed harsh to me. After that post, I would never ask that member for any sort of advice because of the reaction I'd be afraid of receiving.

Thats the one bad thing about the internet. You can't hear a person's voice, see their mannerisms while they are talking, etc. Things are easily taken the wrong way, and not the way the author has intended.

This ADBB is the most inspirational place I know of! I am inspired every day by reading posts. I get more support here than anywhere else.

Not everyone is very self-motivated. Must be nice to be so perfect. Some people need to hear other success stories & such to remind them that it can be done.

I'm not quite sure how this thread benefits anyone other than the OP.

When I applauded for the original post, I applauded the general concept that was brought out that we are ultimately the ones who realize our dreams and make our own successes.

I didn't mean to imply by my support of the original post that it was wrong for anyone to reach out for support... I mean, perhaps the tone of the OP was a bit glib, but I didn't realize it was targeted towards anyone in particular.

I'm sorry if anyone's feelings were hurt. Although it was not my post, I don't want anyone to feel (because of my support of certain tenets of the post) as if I am unwelcoming to new members who seek support.
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

                    Vigilance, not perfection.

Yikes. Now we're reduced to personal insults? C'mon. Reread the OP and try doing so with the recognition that it wasn't a personal attack, but rather the voice of experience.

Sometimes things don't come across the way we intend for them to in written form, as FloydGirl so eloquently pointed out. You may not know Betty as well as several of us do, but those of us that know her and care about her know that her post was not meant as a personal attack on anyone, nor was it meant to detour anyone from seeking support. It's like I said in my earlier post, when you've literally worked your @ss off to get to goal, hearing people come out of the woodwork looking for the "magic bullet" can be more than a little frustrating.

It seems that we're all human. No one expects or implied they expect perfection from anyone. If we possessed that, none of us would be here to begin with.

Hard on ideas, soft on PEOPLE. It's really not that hard.

Oh, and welcome to the forum bride2be06.

C'mon Brook. You guys spin it how you want. It was rude!
There is nothing in that post that in anyway is going to make anyone feel better about themself, except for the OP.
THAT's not what we are supposed to be here for.
                        IMHO, of course.

                          (((Barb)))

I'm not saying the choice in wording was fantastic.

:::looks back to double check and make sure I didn't say that. Nope. I didn't:::::

I can absolutely see why it would tie some people's knickers in a knot. You know I'm not one for fluff anyway, but I don't read the OP as a personal attack on any level - just a vent.

Personally? My email box fills up several times a week with people looking for support, inspiration, motivation, tips, etc etc. I *love* that, and love providing that type of support- isn't that why we're here?! And there are some of those emails that I find absolutely insulting - like I found a magic bean of some kind and I'm keeping it a secret.

And I still find personal attacks uncalled for. I think we can all agree that Betty, by and large, has been a huge inspiration and source of support for people on the board.

What? Never had a bad day? Never had a bad-choice-of-words moment? Never been frustrated by a newbie looking for an easy out?

C'mon is right. A little slack on ALL sides seems called for to me, but as you said, that's JMHO.

                            Re: "I NEED MOTIVATION" THREADS

I think this thread has run its course. But, I will say I think EVERYONE is CORRECT. Because everyone is different! None of us are motivated by the same thing!!!! We all have different motivations. One of my biggest motivators was my cheat free blinkie. I was determined never to lose that. AND.......many times it kept me from a cheat.
Whatever anyone can find to be their motivation.........well WONDERFUL!
I am one that can be motivated by outside forces. I have to be open for it, but if I am ...........look out!! When I started here I was "maybe I can do this WOE?"..... after 2 weeks of induction and posting here I was FIRED UP! And I credit the people on the board and their cheering me on and yes my success. I still read here for motivation. Alot are hestitant when we first start.
Anyways......... Betty has always been a "cheerer on" and I am sure she meant NO harm in her post, only to let people know that they are responsible for themselves and their success.
I think sometimes us "oldtimers" here need to remember where we were when we started. Losing weight was also a time of finding myself after many years of hiding behind the "bulk" of me. I would say weight loss is a huge growth period for alot of people and every single one of us are different and express things differently. IMHO...that is the beauty of this place!
Now.........motivate, support and encourage anyone and EVERYONE! Agree to disagree and respect each other!

Well said Bren...you pipped me to the post (pun intended)!! Was about to make the exact same points you do.

Everyone's correct... in their own personal way. Motivation, inspiration...let's gloss over the semantics of the thing. Getting help here on ADBB is what it's all about, and Betty is one of the first people ready to help and cheer us on.

Oh, and as for Rich's broad shoulders... how absolutely cool! Soooo nice to fall back on, and sooooo nice to have to be fallen back on.
Maybe we narrower shouldered broads should start wearing shoulder pads again!! Lol.
