  • HELP! I made a boo boo

    Hi all

    Today I had an interview at a hotel and I was offered a drink and for some unknown reason I said 'Coke'. Not diet coke, just coke. By the time the guy interviewing me had come back from the bar I had realised my mistake and didnt have the guts to tell him that I'd made a mistake. When my drink came I had to drink it, out of politeness and I did order it!

    I had half a pint, please can someone advise me of how I can recitfy any damage that I've done?


    26 yr 5'2 F
    Did Atkins on and off from Feb 2005 until April 2008. Fluctuated between 15 st 1/211lbs and 11 st 1/155lbs.
    On different weightloss programme from 28th May 2008 start weight 14 st 11/207lbs.
    Current weight 10st 3lbs/143lbs.
    Ultimate Goal Weight 9 st/126lbs.

    Blow it off, it happens sometimes, just keep on plan and you should be fine.

      How many carbs were there? What is your current daily intake of carbs? If those numbers differ by too much, you could get thrown out of ketosis if you leave them unused by your muscles long enough to be stored elsewhere. Burn them up, & temporarily cut additional carb intake, and then just keep swimming...

        Just forget it and start fresh tomarrow.NOthing can be done to reverse it, except perhaps drink lots of water to hopefully flush it out.Dont worry, one drink isnt gonna be the end of the world.Good job on your weight loss

          you never have to posion yourself to be polite! you could have set it down and let it be until after the interview.
          Now you need to count all those carbs watch for any cravings from the caffeine and/or sugar know it will effect you the rest of today and go on with your Atkins from here.

            By the way... best of luck to you on getting that job!

            Chalk it up to experience, promise yourself that next time you'll say, "Oh I could have sworn I said diet... may I have a diet coke instead please?" It's really no biggie. Just brush yourself off, kiddo, and get back on the WOE.

            Seems like I used to do such a thing then say oh well I blew it, might as well make it a real good one... then go binge. *wince* What a horrible thing to do to myself! I'm proud of you for being so honest. Do drink lots of water and get back into ketosis as soon as your body allows it.

              According to the Coca-Cola website, there are 27g of carbohydrate (sugars) in 8 ounces (a half pint) of Coke.


              So it's not really the end of the world. Keep on keeping on.
              No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

                Besides feeling like you didn't want to make a fool of yourself admitting you made a mistake in front of the prospective employer...how did the interview go?

                      Yup what everybody else said. And when stuff happens I tend to make sure I drink more water and throw in some extra exercise to try to even it out! Don't beat yourself up too bad, stuff happens.

                        Don't beat your self up over it! Definately don't feel as if you screwed up the entire program. Let one drink be just one drink, so keep being "good" for the rest of the day. That one drink doesn't have to mess up dinner, etc.

                        BTW, how did you do on the interview? I'll keep my fingers crossed you get the job.

                          Everyone else gave you that good ol pick yourself up advice which I agree with. Don't forget that it takes about 3500 cal. to gain so...you're fine. However, NEVER EVER EVER HESITATE to return something. They will not hold the job back because you said "gosh I'm so sorry....I was nervous and I don't drink coke...may I have water instead?"
                          I know it's over now but for the future.......it's ok to admit you were nervous and ordered the wrong thing. It's funny though I know your feeling. When I was younger I would have thought "oh no I have to drink it....I may not get that job!" at 42 I am finally getting courage and the wisdom to know what may or may not set someone off. And in the big picture....this is itsy bitsy.

                            INterviews are hard enough w/o this kind of stress! Best of luck to you!

                            Strangely, there's always that weird effect where a quick sugar spike accelerates weight loss the next day. So, maybe you'll have a silver lining.

                            Congratulate yourself that you didn't turn this sugar splurge into a justification to eat everything in sight!! You've done great! Walk on a treadmill or ride a bike for 30 mins. Eat somethign fatty & yummy & Atkins-perfect. Chalk it up to nerves!!

                              Thank you for all of your posts. I felt like such a dork when I realised my mistake and my interviewer had ordered a diet coke and i just wanted to swap the glasses around! I dont feel so bad about it now but I still feel silly, DOH! Gona drink tons of water today.

                              Thank you for being supportive about the job too. Its for a competitor hotel company and a job in a department that I really want to return to. I went to the job that I'm in now for the wrong reasons and regret leaving my previous job. I've been waiting for something to come up in my own company but nothing seems to be coming up and I'm getting p*ssed off wasting my time in a job that I dont enjoy. Plus the money is *hopefully* going to be £4k more and down the road from my BF so we can move in together. We currently live 30 miles apart and only see each other at the weekends.
