Hi, my name is Lisa and im not new to this way of eating, but im having issues with sticking to the program, i think my problem is more mental than anything and im not sure if anyone can relate, but let me give you some insight of what im talking about, i started atkins back in march for my second time which i lost about 50lbs two years ago but i still needed to lose at least 100lbs, well i started in march and i could not lose so i started tweaking and gave up cheese and processed meats so pretty much i was just eating meat, veggies, eggs, and butter or olive oil and i did that for about a month and started to feel better all the way around and started walking daily, well me and my family went on vacation at the beginning of the summer and i went off the diet with the intention of just jumping back on when i got back and that was a month and a half ago and im doing worst than ever i just mentally can not get it going again, then my mom calls to tell me about a book called A body by God and pretty much it seems almost to what i was doing before because i dont eat pork really anyway, i usually stick to turkey, chicken, or fish, i just dont know how to get focused again. I guess i just need some one who has been on this path to tell me what worked to get you into that mind frame again.

    Re: just need to vent

Hey Lisa, I wish I knew magic words that would give everyone the willpower to bite the bullet and do it. But, then, if I had them, I'd be thin too LOL

Part of it is in your head...but I think the bigger part is in your body. I think every time you go off plan, the body throws bigger obstacles in your way each time. Your body has to work harder to burn fat for fuel. So, when you give it carbs, it gets to be lazy...try to take those carbs away again...and it throws every obstacle it possibly can in your way. It's the whole addiction thing. We are addicts to carbohydrates. The best thing to do is to not go off plan...but it does happen to some of us (myself included). The best thing to do is to get right back on track. Don't give into your body and mind wanting those carbs, you KNOW how bad they are for you...and your spirit just HAS to be stronger than the body and the mind. Take it one meal at a time and just do it.

      Re: just need to vent

You know that this WOE works because you tried it before, so you can make it!
Of course you can't expect to keep stressing your body and that it will lose weight whenever you feel like. It needs time to adjust and you should give yourself that time and that chance!!
So it doesn't matter if you are confused or not, it doesn't stop you from eating properly, so in this case I would say to : ACT FIRST (get back on plan, start Induction again and cheat free, even using processed meat now and then, don't worry too much!) and THINK LATER!
While you'll be losing weight, I'm sure your confusion will go away cause you'll feel much better and with more energy.

      Be strong!

Ditto what Validrouge and Roshen said. I have the same struggles and I ask the same questions as you. Look at the quote in my siggy. I find that helps a lot. Once you force yourself through two cheat free days (not easy but it can be done) your body's "common sense" kicks in and you no longer feel the carb addiction. I am full force back on the wagon again and I think it's because I saw some weight loss shows on t.v. a week or so ago and among them were stories about two women who weighed over 600 lbs each and a man who weighed over 750 lbs and couldn't get out of bed. It was very sad. I do not want to go there. So I'm back on plan. Good luck. You can do it.

ok, my 2cents worth: this is a way of life, not a diet and to go off it while on vacation means your not ready to change your way of eating.
I go away too, but atkins is how I eat now, I dont change it because I am going on vacation, I eat this way because I used to be fat (ok.............still kinda fat but working on it ) and decided to eat this way forever to loose or maintain it.
I think its the mindset you need to focus on right now, not the diet.
          Just something to think about.

Like ladyinred said, it changes after only a couple of days. I've been in your boat before, too. For me, motivation to "grab the bull by the horns" and just DO it came first, as I gradually became aware of more and more physical and mental problems that were directly linked to my steadily increasing weight. Second, I saw a picture (bottom left) someone took of me. Third, I know that this diet is the only chance I've got, having tried all else.

This diet works, but you have to take the whole package. If you just starve, lose the weight, and go back to your old eating and exercise habits that you got fat from, you will get fat from it again only quicker. I gained 55 pounds in less than 6 months; without this diet, at that rate I'd soon be in serious medical trouble.

              Re: just need to vent

I agree with everyone, but Diva hit the nail on the head. This is not something you go on and off. I have eaten in almost every imaginable place and stayed on atkins. If i upset relatives by not eating their birthday cake, hey so be it. This has to be approached as a way of life or its not going to work. That thinking has what has made me stick and not cheat since i started on memorial day. I may have eaten too much legal food at times, but nothing illegal has entered my mouth. Its not a choice for me. That carb train is always going to be at the "station" waiting for me to jump on it and i refuse. You refuse, minute by minute, meal by meal , day by day, week by week and so on. Read the testimonials, look at the before and after photos, daily be here and make it part of your life. We make it hard, but its not, its simple.

What got me in the frame of mind to just get down and do this WOE is
I had started exercising. There was no way I was going to bomb my
exercise rewards by eating the wrong foods. I sweat and stretch and
make myself exercise 6 days a week.--Regardless--and it has paid off.
Start you a serious exercise routine you can follow every day and you
won't feel like eating all that junk food! Try it!

                  Re: just need to vent

hi and thanks everyone for responding, im on day two of induction and i feel a little better than i did the other day, i do want to lose weight so bad and i have that frame of mind most of the time and going on vacation did throw me off, maybe i wasnt as strong as i thought i was, but my problem was getting back on. I was doing awesome before i went on vacation and im not blaming the vacation, im blaming my poor planning which i hold myself accountable for, to many skipped meals and going from theme park to theme park and i gave in to my urges, and i did not gain nothing on vacation but the problem came when we got back and i could not jump into my eating plan again and then felt guilty for eating which made me eat more, where even my husband noticed i had no energy to do anything because i felt ashamed and i gained back about 15lbs in a month, so now im going to swallow the wrong that i did and make it right, i know its going to be longer to reach that mini goal but i need to do this not just for me but for my children, i worry of dying at a young age if i dont lose this weight so to me this is serious, i also need to do a lot of soul searching since im an emotional eater and i tend to eat even when im not hungry to satisfy me for the moment but then the guilt will come shortly after. So once again i thank anyone who gave advice or just listened to me vent a little it feels better getting it off your chest.

                    Re: just need to vent

It's OK to vent! I feel your pain, a lot of us have had similar setbacks. Just hang in there - don't give in no matter how bad the cravings may get, fill up on water and non-cheats. Soon you should be past the hard part and enjoying higher energy and less appetite that is what makes this diet so easy to follow.

Lisa, the hardest part is recognizing the weaknesses in yourself NOT the plan...and you've done that!!!!! ((((((((((Lisa))))))))))) You are going to do fine, just stick to it, come here for support and don't look back, only forward!

Check out the journals...that's where the love and support is on this board. The Atkins phases are the technical stuff. The journals is where we learn to love ourselves and each other, and become stronger and more committed. IMO
