      Re: Induction.......

What happens if you never leave Induction?

You'll never learn how to eat in the "real world". On-Going Weight Loss and Pre-Maintenance Phases teach you about your body, your body's tolerance to carbs and certain foods, and it teaches you about your eating habits. In other words, these are the phases where you learn how to keep the weight off while you lose weight.

If you never learn to change your eating habits or learn about how your body reacts to food, it's like pushing someone out of an airplane in hoping they can figure out where the string that releases the parachute is before they hit the ground.

        Re: Induction.......

GinaG, this phase of Atkins is designed primarily to get your body into ketosis, or fat-burning metabolic state. This continues as your progress to later phases, when you are adding additional food choices and learning to eat in a way that works best for your body. If you stay on induction too long, your body will eventually grow resistant to attempts to shed more pounds. You will get bored of the limited choices on induction, and then if you stop at that point you stand an excellent chance of resuming the way of eating that got you fat and eventually surpass the weight at which you started induction, because you didn't learn what comes after induction.

            Re: Induction.......

The Atkins Plan is a FOUR PHASE PLAN. The first two weeks (or longer is YOU CHOOSE) is the induction phase and is the most restrictive. If you go to the Second Time Around Forum, you'll see lots of us back there for 2nd, 3rd, 4th times around. This time I'm following the plan as it was intended and did INDUCTION, and am now working my way through the ON GOING WEIGHT LOSS (OWL) phase. Notice that it's called ON GOING weight loss....you still LOSE WEIGHT, and you learn how to add all the foods back that you'll eat for the rest of your life. You still lose weight on OWL, I've lost over 60 lbs in 6 months on OWL!!!!!!!!!!! When you get within 10 lbs of your goal, you move into Pre-maintenance and add even more carbs back into your diet to learn how many carbs you can eat and MAINTAIN your weight. Once you've got that figured out, and you've lost that last few pounds, you move into MAINTENANCE where you eat lots of foods and maintain your weight...not gain, not lose, MAINTAIN.

Leecy, the way you gain it back is that you never go through the phases and you never learn what foods you can and cannot have....then you return to the way you were eating before that GOT YOU FAT TO BEGIN WITH and of course it comes back on. Of course it doesn't come back all at once...it took me 2 1/2 years to put on 50 lbs and it took me 7 months to take off 70.
