    Pneumonia

    Hi Guys,

I was diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday....I remeber reading that Atkins folks sometimes are more likely to become ill. I'm not asking for medical advice, I am under a doctor's supervision, but does anyone have any past experiences?

    Thanks

Actually I began eating like this almost 2 years ago and have been faithful 85% of the time and I have only had a cold twice in that time. I was always thinking the opposite because I rarely get sick now.

That statement is absolutely incorrect. By doing the Atkins way of life or as I like to say the good ol fashion Whole foods lifestyle, you are building your immune system. In the 6 years that I have been living this lifestyle I can honestly tell you that I have only been ill twice. Once with a stomach virus and the other with a head cold after traveling on an airplane.
I'm sorry you are sick. Take care of those lungs.

I've had I believe one or two colds since the millenium - and have been on Atkins since 2001. In terms of health, this math works for me!

I was actually referring to the references of the "flu-like symptoms" thread that is posted.

Thank you everyone for your responses and well wishes.

many folk get flu like symptoms when they start induction but it isn't illness from the actual flu virus or any bacteria or virus. it is the body going through withdrawal sysmtoms from whatever they gave up when they started induction like caffeine and carbs just to name a few.

Sorry you got sick do you have bacterial or viral pnemonia? listen to your doc so you get well without scarring your lungs.

Actually, I don't know which one I have...I am asthmatic, so my respiratory system has always been a little weakened.
              Thank you!

I feel healthier and get less niggly things wrong since doing Atkins (started a year and a half ago). Hope you get better very soon!

                  Re: Pneumonia

I used to take some type of the over the counter meds daily before Atkins. I haven't taken anything in over a year now except Motrin, and that was for sore muscles because of exercise. I haven't even been sick since starting.

If you are just starting Atkins it could be what is called Atkins flu, but this is not an actual flu. It is called that because it feels similiar to the flu for some people. It is just harder for some people to switch their bodies fuel system from a Carb burning system to a fat burning system. The flu feeling goes away once your body adjusts.
