I find it appaling that doctors and the media claim ketosis is so dangerous and can cause numerous health problems when many parents have been putting their epileptic kids on very low carb/ketogenic diets for YEARS to control their seizures and have only noticed positive effects.

Re: Ketogenic Diets
I agree, but the only way to prove them differently is with years of low carb anecdotal evidence. Even then MSM and such doctors will still probably be entrenched in their old belief systems, so we are left with doing what we know is best for our own health.Kent - 35-M-6'4"

Re: Ketogenic Diets
The ketogenic diet for seizures was used in the 1920s and 1930s. Then it sort of fell out of favor when the seizure medications became more prominent. But they still used the diet as a last ditch effort for kids who did not respond to any medications at all. When I worked at the children's hospital, we had a handful of kids on it and they did well. But again, it was as a last ditch effort.
Johns Hopkins University Hospital is conducting studies on the ketogenic diet and seizures. In fact a couple of years ago, the director of the program posted in the now-defunct children's health forum, looking for study participants....~Megs~

Re: Ketogenic Diets
Its all about selling drugs. Keep people sick so they have to keep taking $$ prescriptions.
Take charge of your own health. Eat the way you were meant to eat (no processed crap foods) and you'll discover how truly healthy you can become WITHOUT drugs.

Re: Ketogenic Diets
As a former epileptic who they said would have my grand mal seizures for the rest of my life, I am now phenobarb and tegretol free, have zero seizures and haven't for years and years. Hmmm since starting low carb as a matter of fact. Anything to that? I hope so. Living life as an epileptic was not fun.

Re: Ketogenic Diets
one thing many medical discussions about ketogenic diets/ketosis is they do not distingush between keto acidosis health issues and what Dr Atkins calls ketosis they are 2 very different things and unless the med person telling you Atkins is a health hazzard knows what Atkins is and that Dr Atkins is loosely using the term ketosis to mean burning fats which he has since renamed in his newer books using ther medical term for fats lipids instead of ketosis.by the book atkinseer
