  • is anyone else like me?

For me personally, i use the atkins diet as a quick fix to wait loss and nothing else. Im well aware that this is not the correct way to go about "on going weight loss"; not to mention it being VERY unhealthy... but i find if i need to drop a stone in 2 weeks, then the atkins 2 week introductory period (inducing katosis), is perfect for this.
Am i the only one that bends the rules when it comes to atkins?
Im very strict in these 2 weeks, keeping carb intake down to as little as 5-10 net grams a day. i have never faild to loose a stone.

Yeah but if you have to keep going back on induction to re-lose the same weight why bother? Just find something you can stick with, lose it, and get it over with...
Started Atkins on December 8th, 2005

    Officially Re-Focusing on 12-28-09.

    Was, Am, Will be: 280/222/175ish.
Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

    so:
    Restart Progress:
    12/28/09 ~ 235.1
    01/04/10 ~ 229.0
    01/11/10 ~ 229.0 Grrrrr....
(Induction= only 6lbs but lost 10 inches! yay)
    01/18/10 ~ 227.4
    01/5/10 ~ 226.8
    02/01/10 ~ 222.6

      I agree with Adreliuc.

I cant see the point of doing what you are doing Ceejay. As its already been said, why not find a diet you can stick to so that you dont keep putting that weight back on again?

i know what your saying, and it makes sence. But the convenience of loosing a stone in 2 weeks.. and getting down to a good weight, then putting it back on over a few months is appealing to me (i know this sounds rediculous)..

It doesnt sound ridiculous, it just sounds as though you see it as a crash diet.

The problem you may encounter a little further down the line is that your body becomes used to eating this way, and that your weight loss will slow down in a big way.

A lot of people say that its harder to lose the 2nd time around, or I suppose 3rd or 4th time also.

I personally do not think it is our job to tell you what to do ..but it sounds like you are YO YO dieting and if that is how you want to live go for it ..personally I love to eat good food all the time and have my clothing slip on week after week after week ....with out having to "crash diet" to get the weight off...it just seems like a better thing to enjoy stability in life ...

but I am absolutely sure you are NOT the only person who uses Atkins like a YO YO rather than the way it was intended ...a lifestyle change...

and again if you are happy and it works for you ..why even bother asking?

its probably like the 20 time i have done this diet (no exaggeration) and i have never failed to loose at least a stone, so its not slowed down as of yet "touch wood"..

I thought this post would open up a can of worms!!

I guess it depends what works for you. I'd prefer to keep that stone off for life rather than gain it on again. But its ur choice and decision. I'd just be concerned if I was doing my body any damage by restricting my carbs so much for 2 weeks then gorging on carbs afterwards. Then repeating the process.

At the end of the day its up to you what you do.

I cannot imagine the havoc you are wreaking with your blood sugar by this yo-yo approach.

To me, Atkins is way more about doing the HEALTHY thing than it is about losing the weight.

Re: is anyone else like me?

This diet being unhealthy is like an urban myth that even I believed. But I have to say I was desperate and thought this could be the only way for me... as I started I for the first time in a diet beleived that this was something that I could actually do for a long time, the lifestyle change I needed. I just finished my induction, that I did well... I ate my 20 carbs and all my veggies (what's unhealthy about eggas and steack with salad?), and I did great.

Also, since I was afraid that I'd be getting into something unhealthy before starting, just like Dr. Atkins advices in his book, I got m,yself checked at the doc. My blood tests came back, thay where all good despite my overweight (I was impressed my cholesterol wasn't up in the sky). Now that I finished my induction, I went again to get checked, to see if my normal levels got worse. The results say my cholesterol and triglycerids are even lower.

I think that the fact that you eat bacon, makes everyone believe you'll die from a heart attack ... lol ... my family doesn't approve the diet because of the same thing.

It's ok if someone wants to do this as a crash diet. But after understanding how carbs work, those lost lbs will come back sooner than later, and also my doctor warned me that if you do this diet and go back to eating your normal carbs... do it again, and go back to eat carbs, your body will develop a high metabolic resistance, so eventually it will stop working as a crash diet, and make it much harder to do if you want to follow it for a lifestyle change.
