  • Ketosis strips question ladies only....

    Okay, sorry guys, no offense...but my question is this if you are on your period will that effect the color? Gross I know...
    SW: 163 (Started lo fat diet Feb 06)
    CW: 133 (3rd day on Induction)
    GW: 116

    Goal loss on induction: -10 lbs

    Note: I am a member of OA and Atkins is my approved diet, not "diet"....

    As far as I know, you are not supposed to test during "that time" I suppose it throws it off. As to the why and how, we will have to wait for the more Atkinsly Educated to chime in here. Compared to others, I am still an Atkins Freshman... maybe a sophomore, but still learning.

        I never show any ketosis on the strips when PMSing.

          I'm the same as Barb. Doesnt matter how hard I work out in the gym I will never show that I'm burning fat during my period. Something to do with hormones or something. I'm sure that we still are in ketosis but obviously the hormones we release during our periods effect the strips in some way

          Did Atkins on and off from Feb 2005 until April 2008. Fluctuated between 15 st 1/211lbs and 11 st 1/155lbs.
          On different weightloss programme from 28th May 2008 start weight 14 st 11/207lbs.
          Current weight 10st 3lbs/143lbs.
          Ultimate Goal Weight 9 st/126lbs.

            you can pop false negative before your period and then false positive during it ..just keep going and use the strips when you are between periods ...and do not count them as something that really means anything it is just a tool to help you...you will get to know yourself well enough soon so that you do not even need this tool

              The strips do not change color in response to hormones. The change is from contact with ketone bodies, alcohol, acetone or vinegar. The amount that is in your urine will be more or less based on the degree of ketosis, the dilution of your urine, and the rate of ketone utilization by the body versus the ketone production rate.
