  • Stretch Marks!!! Help

I have a question, mainly to those who have lost a lot of weight and have stretch marks.
Ok, I'm a big girl, I was 280, now 253, but besides the weight loss, i've been a big girl all my life and when I quit sports in high school, I gained a lot of weight...and STRETCH marks appeared everywhere: hips, inner thighs, arms, back, stomach(terrible), and it SICKENS me! I would wear a bikini, even as a big girl if I didn't have these damn stretch marks.

My question is, once I loose these 100 pounds I'm aiming to loose, will they ever go away???? I know they fade, because the ones on my hips are faded, but still obvious. That's the thing..no matter how much they fade, they are still obvious in sunlight..which is where you wear a bathing suit.

When I loose 100 pounds, I want to strut my stuff, but guess what?

I CAN'T BECAUSE OF THESE STRETCH MARKS.....this topic depresses me!!! HELP ? please???

Girl stretch marks should be the last thing on your mind, LET NOTHING DETER YOU from losing your weight including the stretch marks issue! See I did that too trippin off of how I will look afterwards and got depressed in a straight hopelessness state. But check it, I realized after a while that everybody wasn't going to see me booty butt naked and if they did, they have photoshop and makeup for trouble spots like everyone else. Long as you look good in your clothes that's all that matters.

I haen't lost 100 yet but I have lost over 60. I still have stretch marks. Some of them look better if that helps any. The ones on my hips aren't nearly as noticeable. I don't have very elastic skin and have been pregnant 3 times. I don't expect them to go away and really don't care if they do. I wear a Tankini, not a bikini and it cover the worst ones.

I know for me, a lifesaver for stretch marks is self tanner

        it really hides them well.

Hey..yeah, I think a tankini would be good...i've lost almost 30 pounds, and sometime...in the future, i want to be able to show off the weight i've lost. someone told me that tanning beds, and laying out in the sun makes stretch marks fade really fast...anyone heard that?

It depends- if they are white stretch marks then the sun will

make them stand out even more. That's why i like the self tanner- it

almost acts as a makeup for them.

Yes the sun does help fade them, don't tan I have a natural one. (Dolphin grabbing baby oil to go to the beach, forget everything else and find some sun to bake her stomach).

What is a Takini? Can I get a pic? Thanks.

Here are some tankini's. Mine covers more than these. I don't have any belly showing. BTW Dolphin we have very similiar stats. I am 5'5", 35, and started at about the same weight as you.

                  Re: Stretch Marks!!! Help

As you lose weight, the stretch marks will get smaller because there won't be fat underneath stretching the skin out. Unfortunately they'll never totally disappear...but they'll get smaller and go from red to white.

I've been laying out in the sun...and you can't see mine nearly as much anymore. Up real close you can see them, but from even just a short distance, you can't see them as much.

                    Re: Stretch Marks!!! Help

Thanks for the pics girl of the Takinis', they are nice. Our stats are similiar and not only that we're both Mom's to four kids Yes were special (to our kids ) I have 3 boys and 1 girl, what about you?

I already know that I'll have to purchase some of this stuff again, to cover up any discolorations: Dermablend. Stars use this stuff, so does other people I know including myself (well I haven't wore it in a few years to be honest) and this stuff really works and it has staying power on the skin!!! I know they sell this product @ JC Penny too, that's where I bought it and suggest finding a retailer that carries it where you live or where you can get to, because you need to see it to match it up, I had to buy two different colors to blend in perfectly.

Valid, girl you always know how to brighten a girls day up!!! I didn't know the stretch marks shrunk, (well I guess so now that I think about it ) now I feel even better knowing that I won't have to use the whole thing of Dermablend in a week when I want to go to the beach.

                      Re: Stretch Marks!!! Help

There are several posts on the board that recommend dry brushing (before showering) for stretch marks and loose skin.

You may want to look into that and see how it works for you.

                        Re: Stretch Marks!!! Help

Oh yeah, they shrink big time.

When I first started, I had big red marks that started at the bottom of my belly near the groin and moved up past my belly butt. They were at least 1/4 to 1/2" wide too! Now, they are white and maybe 1/8" and getting smaller. Because I've tanned them, they aren't really that noticeable. My worst ones are on the inside of my thighs--some are still really red. I can't wait for those to start to shrink and fade too.

I have 2 boys and 2 girls. My stepson is all grown now (21) but my husband and I raised him so I get to count him as one of my kids too. I was his age when I became his Mom. I also have daughters that are 11 and 9 and a son who is 2. How's that for an age gap!

I've tried to bump some threads up for you to read. Just click on "New Posts" above in the tool bar and they should show up. Look for titles like "Loose Skin", "Cellulite", "Skin Brushing" and "Stretch Marks".

                              Hope they help!
