  • Back Pain (kidney's?)

    Hey guys!

I currently work for a doctors office and I came back from lunch today feeling sick in my stomach with a major backache. First thing I thought.... KIDNEY STONE. I had one last year and OMG... talk about painful.

Anyway, they did a urinalysis on me and negative for everything except a large amount of keytones in my urine.

However, this doesn't fix my problem. It's nice to know that I don't have a kidney stone, but I still have this back pain in my kidney region.

Did any of you have sore kidney's when you began this diet? Or anytime??

Dr. ATkins advised us to have pre-diet blood work done. Did they show any kind of kidney function impairment?

If you are still in pain, I suggest you see your doctor.

      Re: Back Pain (kidney's?)

I had a pain in my back, the right side, I though there was a problem with my kidney, went to the doctor, made me lots of analysys, everything was right, except for a inflamation of my colon, that was the problem, the inflamation was in certain area of the colon that the pain was reflecting in my back, I cut fat for two weeks or so, increased fiber and omega-3 and the problem was solved, I started adding fat little by little.

I asked several doctors if it was possible that a colon pain could be on the back, and they told me that it was possible, because I could not believe that.

      14-Feb-04 - 36% fat
      13-May-05 - 27%
      06-Jun-05 - 25.5%
      Jul-06 - 23%
      My goal - 18%

        Re: Back Pain (kidney's?)

I was convinced one time that I had kidney stones, because of pain in my back....they did the tests....and then the Dr. felt on my pelvis...I had slipped my pelvis out of place. She got it back in place and the pain in my back/side went right away. Go figure.

Sometimes I'll get pain like that, and it's just gas...sloooooooowwww moving torturous gas.

I just talked with the doctor that I work for and he said there was some RBC's in my urine. So he was somewhat concerned about that, but said that my dipstick was negative, which means I COULD have a kidney stone, but he doubts it.

If this was before you started Atkins then definitely get your doc to give you a proper examination to find out what is causing this constant pain.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I've noticed, now that I drink eight (or more) glasses of water a day, that if I don't drink my water during the course of the day, I get kidney pain. It is like they are crying out for water. Once I start getting a few cups in, it goes away.

It only did this once before when I was sick and hadn't drank anything for a good while.

                  Re: Back Pain (kidney's?)

When I dont drink enough water...at least thats when I've noticed it....I sometimes get a cramp/sharp pain on the right side but the back area...know what I'm talking about? I guess it's where the kidney would be....

I've had it a couple of times but they dont really last more than a half hour or so and not continous.....just a "if I move that way or twist that way" it hurts kind of thing......

So unfortunately I'm not the one to answer your question....I dont even know what my dilemma is...LOL.

Hope all ends up well with you and that its not kidney stones or anything of that nature.
