  • WHEY PROTEIN .. anyone ?

I've been making brekkie shakes with whey protein for a couple of months. I've noticed that I am really increasing my muscle mass (unfortunately the pounds as well, but I'm still getting smaller, so I'm okay with that ...)

Wondering if anyone else drinks WP shakes regularly and what you've noticed??

I typically take 2 scoops, mixed with 16 of water and 3 ice cubes and a little almond extract for flavor. Its a filling breakfast to be sure!!! Low carb too, as the WP I use is sweetened with splenda.

    Thoughts anyone?

I would love to use whey protein but have yet to find one without splenda or aspartame. I don't believe in artificial sweetners. Funny thing is, when I started using whey with splenda I started gaining weight. I don't think it was good weight though. Splenda is known to cause water retention or weight gain for some so I stay away from it.

Unflavored, unsweetened. You could add your own flavors, stevia, etc.

Betty--what do you do to get your fat ratio up at breakfast and the fiber, or do you not worry about that stuff for later in the day?

The best Whey Shakes I've seen are ISO PURE's Low Carb shakes. I like the 1 gram shakes. They digest easily and can be mixed wiht a hand mixer. They aren't meal replacement things - just like a chocolate yoohoo.

Had one for lunch today, it's a 1 carb shake with about 25g's of protein. I add about 1/2 oz to 1 oz of heavy cream plus water and ice then blend. I bought an awesome little 1 serving blender at walmart for $14. This fills me up as much as a meal. i have different variations, including cocoa and sweetener, strawberries and banana extract, blueberries, etc.

throw in heavy cream and either flax or psyllium, that will get your ratios up.

I love smoothies once in a very great while now...but I really like food better on a plate much better than whey in a glass ... no offense intended ....but preparing it...looking at it... smelling it and tasting it are all part of the custom of eating for me ..and what gives me so much pleasure and keeps me satisfied ....I can taste whey in anything I have put it in... I should send you guys the containers I bought ...drinking a meal from a glass sounds too "diety" to me ....but if it works for you ..hey go for it!!! look at the results!

Betty, are you still losing weight? If so, you are going to blow away in a stiff wind!

I don't know if this is like whey protein, but I know it is an excellent product, Shaklee's Soy Protein (Instant Protein, NOT the Energizing Protein, which is sickeningly sweet and high in carbs). The Instant Protein has less than 1 gram carb and no sweeteners at all, natural or artificial.

Re: WHEY PROTEIN .. anyone ?

I was making shakes in the morning - protein powder, yogurt, ricotta, coconut milk, frozen in cubes, fruit (berries, perhaps a small piece of banana that I froze in pieces as well) and psyllium. Sometimes soy milk, but usually water.

Well, I've stopped that for a while. They were extra filling, and wonderful, but (a) too full of calories and (b) too many carbs with the fruit.

I just don't like the way I feel just now, and am cutting out a lot of things to try to get back to feeling "normal". I'm thinking, mainly, it was too much fruit, or it could just be that TOM. Whatever is the problem, I need to get a handle on it.

I was even considering freezing them in popsicle containers, so that I could have the taste, divided up into more controllable serving sizes.

I Have a cousin that is a bodybuilder. We were talking about whey protein and he told me just to get powdered milk, it is essentially the same thing. Lacking of course the extra nutrients that some companies add and at a fraction of the cost.
