Re: I am wanting to try atkins but there are so many websites that bash atkins.

When I began looking into Atkins, I read the pro-Atkins sites and the anti-Atkins sites. Then I read the book. And I thought about what Dr. Atkins wrote, even looking stuff up in biology and biochemistry books. Then I thought about it again, and decided that what Dr. Atkins wrote made enough sense to me. Then I tried it.

No one can make up your mind for you. You really need to read and read and read and get as informed about this or any other diet before you try it.

Re: I am wanting to try atkins but there are so many websites that bash atkins.

I dont know about websites that bash it, but every single person who has ever told me that it was harmful to my health, had no idea what they were talking about, and had nothing to back up their claims. When I tell them not only have I lost weight, but my hair, nails and skin are healthier, i'm eating regularly and not binging on crap, my blood pressure and cholesterol are healthier, I -feel- better, have more energy and am for the first time since I was a kid exorcising every day, *breath!* they still sit there and tell me i'm unhealthy. Pfft. people get ketosis and ketoacidosis (sp?) confused and this is where I find the most confusion with atkins bashers.
The honest truth is i've -never- felt so good as when i'm on atkins. what could possibly be unhealthy about doing it right? I drink nothing but water, that alone is amazing for me. I work out hard, every single day. I eat fresh veggies and take my vitamins just like mommy tells us to. People tend to want to have something to bash, especially if it makes them feel like part of a group. I don't care what their opinion is, because im the one doing something good for myself, and i'll let the results speak for me!

          Well let's see....

I'm 70 lbs less and maintained that for 2 years

Blood pressure went from low hyper tention ON medication to optimal WITHOUT medication

          Cholesterol dropped

I work out 5 days a week and have religiously for 2 years

Pants size went from a 40 waste to a 34

          Pardon the following rant:

If I believed all the crap that every tree hugging, muslix muffin with an agenda (whose never weighed more than a bag of tofu chips in their life) posted on their "low fat, skinnyboy, 5 hour a day gym workout" websites then I'd be eating a twinkie an coca cola lunch while my bloated, lazy a$$ arteries clogged up with hydroginated crisco sludge, dooming me to an early grave.

Those people have probably never had to diet a day in their life, let alone fail miserably and deal with the humiliation of failing at every weight watcher, grapefruit paste, Jenny Craig, magic pill popping pukefest diet under the sun.

They have no clue what it's like to be laughed at at a restaraunt or to be teased as a kid until you hated yourself for the lumpy lard a$$ you saw in the mirror every day.

Atkins got a bad name from idiots and people who didn't educate themselves before doing it, setting themselves up for failure. I owe my good health to the good doctor A and the people of this board. Fact is that Atkins works when you do it RIGHT. I am the proof, along with THOUSANDS of other people on this site. Look at the before and afters. There's all the proof you need.

          With that said, welcome back!!!

Re: I am wanting to try atkins but there are so many websites that bash atkins.

I was scared to do atkins because of those.. I bought the book a year ago and decided to try it just now... because i felt it was like my last chance.

I decided to be my own judge on it, you'll id articles that are against and favor it.. they will look that they have good points... this is why i decided to become my own judge on this, and try it... the way i saw it before i started, was that i was basicly easting bad foods, no veggies at all... lots of soda, so if i thought of it... how worse could atkins be compared to how my lifestyle was?

Before I started I got a full medical check, it's been just 3 weeks and i was adviced to waut till i was on this for 6 weeks to do the next one, then i'll see how my health is, and be my own judge.

Till today I have lost 18 ponds, i left behind my sedentary life... i think of what i eat and i don't see i am eating unhealthy stuff, so i feel confident, besides some medical issues I had dissapeared.

I think it's working for me, i'll be sure when i get my check up... butit's up to you to make a choice.. if you go to the net you'll find so many articles saying this is bad, if you come here to ask, you'll get a positive feedback, because this has worked so well for so many people here...

It's hard to decide... i took me a year... but at the end i tried it, also because when you're fat, inside you you know that you don't need just a diet... you know that what you nee is a lifestyle change... and i know that i just wont be able to make it on a low fat diet, i just cant spend the rest of my life eating things i dont like... atkins gave me the chace to keep some of the things i liked, and i'm happy.
I wish you th best at making this desition.

I felt alot better when I did atkins before I dropped from 345 to 272 in 4 months but I have gained it back plus some. People tell me all the time that it's not healthy to do atkins I always say is being over weight healthy.

The evidence speaks for itself. I tried many, many alternatives - this one works.

When people make emotional arguments why I should not do Atkins, I carefully examine their arguments looking for facts. They seldom have correct facts. I do have the facts. As Megs and others have stated, I've read the book and I've researched it. I believe in the science. It makes sense. But more importantly, I've lost weight. So, most of the time, when people make their emotional arguments these days, I smile and walk away.

What I find with low carbers, and especially Atkins Followers, is that they tend to think for themselves.

Or they very soon start thinking for themselves.

They realise that B.S. has been fed to them over the years.

They go through a very angry period, and cannot believe just how much they have been lied to, and how needless their weight suffering has been.

That's what these idiots (who write the negative articles) don't understand. They are perpetuating myths, that are stopping people from truly gaining control over their life.

As much as people scream at me, till they are blue in the face, that this WOL is not for everybody. They have yet to show me scientific evidence why that would be the case. Real evidence.

This program works, and it works for everyone. Everyone, who choose to work it.

The Atkins-bashers usually don't know enough about Atkins to bash it, but they do anyway. People I've spoken to are under the impression that ALL you eat is meat and fat, which would be unhealthy. We eat more than that- lots of veggies; and gradually we increase our carbs and range of foods.

Another part is the controversy over healthy/unhealthy fats. Traditionally, animal fats are considered unhealthy...but Dr. Atkins, in his book has a different take on this. And it makes sense to me.

Besides, how many Atkineers (is that what we're called? ) here have high blood pressure? Or bad cholesterol? Some may, but from I've read it's not a result of the Atkins WOL.
