    Firstly Hi Guys, Fantastic site.

    Need a small bit of advice from some of you.

    Going away camping for three days from tomorrow and in the past these trips have resulted in eating a lot of rubbish and drinking a good few beers.

    Now firstly I enjoy a drink while away to relax at night, Do you think Vodka and diet mixer would be OK? Really dont want to ruin my progress so far but also know this is what I look forward to. Im ensuring I have the correct foods with me but any additional suggestions would be fantastic(Remember im in Scotland - So some of the yummy US goods I may not get here)

    I want to try and make this run smooth with minimum impact on my progress and also enjoy myself.

    Thanks in advance guys for any suggestions and tips.

    In order to give you more appropriate advice, what phase of Atkins are you in? See, what foods you can bring on a trip really depends on what phase you're currently in and it will help our ADBB membership give you phase specific suggestions.

      Welcome to the site! This board is amazing and you will find plenty of advice and support here.

      Post some stats so we can watch ur progress.

      Personally I find that alcohol stalls me for a good week to 10 days. No matter how good I am, I will not lose any weight after drinking. Spirits have no carbs, as far as I can remember so having diet coke with a spirit will not hold any carbs. Except the sweetners in the coke might stall you too.

      There are a few threads about what to take whilst camping...somewhere...
      Not trying to put a dampner on things but just letting you know what could happen after your camping trip.

      Did Atkins on and off from Feb 2005 until April 2008. Fluctuated between 15 st 1/211lbs and 11 st 1/155lbs.
      On different weightloss programme from 28th May 2008 start weight 14 st 11/207lbs.
      Current weight 10st 3lbs/143lbs.
      Ultimate Goal Weight 9 st/126lbs.

        Hey Ryan. I personally, would leave the booze at home unless you are at that stage of your atkins. I know its easy to say you want to drink with the boys. But... wahts more important really. Taking charge of your health and weight and body for life, or having a drink? I know its one drink but, well, its not worth it in my opinion.

        Be sure to take some atkins approved goodies with you. Jerky, radishes, whatever you love thats on the rung you are at. If you have moved up some rungs, make your own trail mix (seeds, nuts, dried berries). If you are still on induction, take some jerky for nibbling and be sure to have some spices around to flavor up your meals. I love to camp and have done so while Atkining and had no problems.

          Thanks for the fast replies guys

          Im still on Induction (I know; Not supposed to to drink alcohol anyway ) I suppose It was a case of well if it makes me come off this WOE go for the low carb at least.

          Not the right attitude though. First week I lost 12lb and have not even been tempted to cheat.

          With this camping trip I will admit I feel myself falling and Im not even away on it yet

              A "rung" is one of several stages of Atkins that follow induction. ie, the 1st rung, you get to increase the vegetables over the induction allowance. Each rung after that allows food choices which were not allowed on induction, with higher rung choices being higher impact on insulin effect.

              Your body cannot burn fat when alcohol is in the system - it will burn that first. Alcohol is halfway up the "rungs" but if you must booze it, realize you still need to keep carbs <20 net carbs so eat plenty of veggies, meat, eggs, cheese etc.

                Is it something you can NOT go on? if its causing you that much stress.... is it worth it? THat doesnt mean youwont EVER be able to go but sometimes, its tough to avoid temptations when you are having a rough go of it. You WILL get stronger and your will power will increase and it wont be a big deal. It just takes time to get to that point.

                  My wee wobble has passed, Was feeling like I was going to slip. I went had my dinner and feel fine now.

                  Great advice from you all and If I do drink alcohol It will be spirits with diet mixer and Plenty of water in between. I will also be aware that it shall slow weight loss down.

                  Most likely I will give the booze a miss though.

                    This is my little hint.

                    Eat high fat items while camping. It really does help with cravings. I am going to the county fair this week and I am going to eat a sausage that is covered in greasy onions and green peppers (no bun). I did this last year at the fair and I was able to walk right by all of the crap.

                      I got no real advise to add, I just want to let you know I totally understand what you are going through and I am sure you will get to have a great ole time AND survive it in one piece, YOU CAN DO IT !!!!!

                          Had a great time Guys.

                          I did slip up on the last day though . Knocked myself back to step one but didn’t let it get to me. Just ensured from the next day that I would just go back to plan and forget about it. Surprisingly I managed this no problem (In the past an excuse to binge would have come out of it) and again enjoying my meals.

                          The advice here was great and a big thanks to you all.

                            I'm glad you had a good trip. Did you take any piccies?

                            Dont beat urself up about the slip up. As you say, at least you didnt just think 'oh well, I've slipped up now, might as well keep shovelling chips/soda/cookies in my mouth' and thats what counts. Picking urself up, dust urself down and join us on the wagon!
